Would You Try Grilled Pizza?

Ever since I received a copy of Grilled Pizza and Piadinas by Craig Priebe, I've been dreaming about grilled pizza. Last weekend, a friend of mine was over, and we grilled up some pies. They were sort of lopsided and awkwardly shaped, but delicious nonetheless. My friend was amazed by his, he'd never heard of grilled pizza before, and thought it was such a fun novelty. What do you think?

SO good. Pizza dough is easy to make, or you can just buy it premade. I know Sunflower Markets has it (for $2).

The first time I did this was a huge fiasco. My husband ended up dumping it upside down on the FLOOR on the way back to the kitchen. The dog thought it was really yummy though.

Never had it but would love to try - had deep-fried pizza before, so grilled can't be that bad!

Yes, my father actually does this all the time in the summer! he puts tons of veggies on it and it's delicious.

I love to have grilled pizzas when we have a group of friends over... You can use your own dough, store bought or even pre-made flatbreads. Just be sure to spray the grill with the non-stick spray for grilling before heating and brush the side of the dough/breads with olive oil before putting the underside on the hot grill so there is no sticking. I like to use small, individual-sized crusts. They are easier to manage and each person can individualize. We have lots of toppings on hand, and, each person chooses a plate of toppings and when the dough has been flipped, you can either take them off and top later, or top them right on the grill. Some great combos - Fresh mozzarella,fresh tomato slices, sundried tomatoes, carmelized onions, goat cheese, fig jam, prosciutto...The possibilities are endless. Just have fun and be sure to have some tasty sangria or cold beer to accompany your creations!
