Valentine's Day Prix Fixe Menus: Love Them or Hate Them?

Like Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve, Valentine's Day is a popular night for restaurants to create a special prix fixe menu. Although I've been known to order a prix fixe or tasting menu from time to time, when it comes to meals with a holiday theme, I generally avoid them. They seem overpriced and extravagant. What's your take on them?

I specifically do not eat out anytime around any holiday. The prices always seem to go up and the amount of people goes WAY up. I'd much rather enjoy my meal if I decide to eat out that's why I also don't do it on a Fri or Sat night. Tues or Thurs night is just fine by me!

This is why we're taking a cooking class on Valentine's day: the prix fixes are unsatisfying, I don't feel like cooking on my own and I don't want to order our heart-shaped pizzas this year.

lack of veggie options (lack of selection in general) + lower quality + over crowded + over priced + often drunk to tipsy waitstaff = Valentines Day dinner out. sounds amazing.

Pre-fix dinners are good if you like to eat, but they're always over priced to me. I never order an appetizer, and I very rarely order dessert. Given that I'd normally spend $25 on just a nice main course, the $50-100 three- or four-course meals are just a waste to me. Plus, they often cranked out quickly and poorly.

I'm with Anthony Bourdain on this one...V-day is one of the worst times to go out to a nice restaurant. They churn and burn through food to feed the masses (many are people that rarly go out and so won't notice if the food is subpar) so I find it best to put my money elsewhere on v-day: take a coupels cooking class, re-create a fancy meal at home...and then we treat ourselves to a nice dinner on a non-holiday night.
