Are You Over the Cupcake Craze?

Cupcakes have been trendy for some time now, and although Publisher's Weekly reports that several new cupcake books are scheduled to hit the shelves this Spring, I'm a little sick of the cute cakes. Over a year ago, I declared French macaroons as the new cupcake and yesterday The New York Times called whoopie pies the baked good of the moment. How do you feel about the matter?

The whole concept of foods as trends that come and go really irritates me... especially for something like cupcakes. It isn't like they were something we just came up with in the last few years anyways, that could really be defined as belonging to this era. So how could they ever be over??? They're ALWAYS gonna be delicious!! Just made a batch today!

Cupcakes are a perfectly pintsized pretty indulgance and will never be out of style. Long live the only cake that you shouldn't feel guilty for polishing off in one sitting. Love Sprinkle's Red velvet one!

NOO... I'll never ever get over cupcakes! I even named my dog Cupcake Sprinkles (after Sprinkles Cupcakes) :D

Cupcakes, themselves, aren't a new creation. The "cute cupcake" is the trend and of course, that will fade.

I've been eating them since I could... eat. That's like saying I'm so over chocolate. How can you be over a food. Eat what you like, it's not like you're wearing a polyester disco suit with big gold chains. You're eating a cupcake for cryin' out loud.

Cupcakes will ALWAYS have a sugary sweet place in my heart, and there is rarely ever a time where I don't crave cupcakes, but I have to admit that I am longing to try french macaroons!!! Whoopie pies...eh, not so much : /

seriously LOVE the little bits of happy :) when my dady was alive every Sunday he would go to the bakery and buy my a cupcake (my special treat for the weekend) the little toys on top and sprinkles :) i actually bought myself a St. Patrick's Day cupcake with a giant green 4-leaf clover and it was chocolate with shamrock with sprinkles.

let's get one thing straight..i LOVE my mother's cupcakes. but i went to a "bake shop" last night to pick up cupcakes - they were dry (at best) and the icing tasted like a sack of sugar was put into it. never again. and my mom's - they could be out for days and not taste as dry as the ones i had yesterday. so yea I'm over this whole cupcake thing.

I think I love cupcakes MORE because of the cupcake craze! If that's possible... I see new and amazing cupcakes every day on the web, making me want them more!

I was never into it in the first place. I'm more of a cheesecake person (However, I've cut back on that due to health reasons).

I prefer cupcakes vs cake but I hope whoopie pies come out in full force! I cant' buy them much around here, not like at home! Mmmm love them!

I like cupcakes but am not keen on huge ones or with tonnes of icing and I prefer to make my own. I agree with Yum I don't think cupcakeries will last either. Quite a few in larger city near me, my town is too small for a shop that just sells cupcakes to be sustainable, have closed down.
