I was vegetarian but my son is breastfeeding and is allergic to dairy so I stopped for him and my gall bladder. Being vegan has been such a great weight lost. I didn't understand what Alicia
Sliverstone meant when she said she felt good her skin was amamzing and she lost a ton of weight. It was so true for me. Ok now I sound like a paid advertisment LOL.
I hear you, techkim! I've never felt better since I went vegan. I gave up dairy almost 3 years ago and then recently gave up meat (thanks to Alicia Silverstone's book) and I've lost weight
and my skin is noticeably smoother and brighter. People think I'm nuts, but to me, food is so much more flavorful and tastier.
I am this week! I'm more of a flexitarian full time (mostly vegetarian with weekend exceptions for fish and farm-raised meat). For January though I'm doing what I think a lot of people are-
starting fresh. Vegan full-time, raw vegan 2/3 meals per day. I miss cheese. I will go back to cheese. But I am feeling general sense of lightness that I could get used to.
I love my fruits and veggies, but there is no way I can give up meat and dairy, even if I tried! Though I do purchase farm-raised/cage-free meat/eggs from my local farmers market and milk
from Broguiere Farm Fresh Dairy.
I tried to be vegan for a while, but I wasn't able to get enough protein that way. So I had to start eating tuna and eggs. I guess I could have found vegan protein sources, but I never found
them to be very appetizing.
Hey, Spectra, how did you know that you weren't getting enough protein? Just curious. Seitan, tofu, tempeh , veggies have TONS of protein and I find that for me, it's a lot easier to digest
than meat protein. Seitan has 22 grams of protein per serving--if that helps!
I would consume less dairy but it is the only way I can consume enough calcium unless I take about 8 calcium pills a day. Have you seen the size of those mega pills? I too did the semi-vegan but also wasn't getting enough protein (dry hair which was falling
out, etc.).
I don't mean to be the protein and calcium police, but it actually takes 3 servings of dairy to equal the same amount of calcium in 1 serving of vegetables. Soy milk, veggies, even English
muffins have tons of calcium. Spinach is a good source, too. Even most orange juices are fortified with calcium. Just google non-dairy calcium sources and you'll find lists and lists of
healthy food that contain more than enough calcium (and protein). The meat and dairy industry had lots of $$ to tell us that they are the only sources of protein and calcium--it's silly.
I was vegan for about a year, but am ovo-lacto vegetarian now. We eat many vegan meals a week, though. We try not to be too purist about it. I find it makes me a bit crazy agonizing quite so
much over ever label, etc. I would like to get to a point where I am more vegan again, though.
I just ordered Food, Inc by way of Netflix and that movie really made me think twice about becoming a vegan. I love bacon too much though. If you haven't seen Food, Inc and you're thinking
about becoming a vegan, this movie will help you make the dive.
I've been vegan for a few years now and I love it! My diet is now so varied and I've tried so many foods I otherwise would never have if I were not vegan!

One of the most popular Cooking Light chicken recipes, these sweet and spicy grilled chicken thighs are flavored with chili powder, cumin, garlic and cider vinegar.

1I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian.

6No but 9 times out of ten I prefer veggies, unless its a nice juicy steak of course!
7Hellllllllllllllllllll no. Add some bacon to my burger please!
8No. Some of their food dishes don't look to good. Most likely they don't taste good either, even though they're healthy.
9No... I can barely do vegetarian for an extended period of time. I feel very ill without meat.

11Vegetarian for 11 years. Haven't made the switch to vegan, but I gravitate towards it when given tasty options.
12I wish I had the willpower but I just love meat and dairy way too much.
13Where's the "LOL" option?

20No but I would like to. I need a protein alternative to soy before I make the switch to vegan.
