Yum's June Must Haves

Jun 2 2011 - 1:58am

Wow, where has 2011 gone? It's hard to believe that it's already June 1, but to say we're excited for Summer is an understatement. It's our favorite season, and we plan on going all out! We'll be grilling, chilling, and mixing up plenty of cool cocktails. To ensure that you do the same, we're sharing our must-have items. Here's what you need to have a fabulous month.

Columbus Hot Sopressata

Our picnic basket will be full of Columbus's Hot Sopressata Artisan Salami [1]. Although it's called hot, this salami is more flavorful than spicy. Our favorite way to enjoy it? Sliced into thin rounds and served with a crusty baguette, salty manchego cheese, and a chilled glass of Rosé.

Naivetea's Oolong Teas

This National Iced Tea Month, go upscale by sipping the complex oolongs from Naivetea [2], a premium tea company that offers some of Taiwan's finest oolong teas. Its infused teas — which include everything from osmanthus to peach — are made by allowing fermented tea leaves to slowly absorb natural fruit flavors using a traditional, artisan technique. We love its cold-brewed Lychee Oolong [3] ($16 for two ounces).

My Grill: Outdoor Cooking Australian Style

Move over Curtis Stone! There's another hunky Australian chef who's making waves in the culinary scene, and his name is Pete Evans. His first US cookbook, My Grill: Outdoor Cooking Australian Style [5] ($30), is full of delicious-sounding recipes. If your guy loves to grill, give him this book; it's full of favorites like burgers and steaks as well as interesting preparations for seafood and chicken.

Lobel's Steaks

Upper East Side fine meat purveyor Lobel's [6] isn't just available in New York; you can also enjoy its prime meats anywhere in America. For Father's Day [7], we love its 16-ounce Natural Prime Dry-Aged Porterhouse [8] ($61), which has a tender texture and rich, marbled flavor. Each item arrives at your doorstep with enough insulation to withstand 48 hours of transit, and your meat products will be safe for consumption for up to seven days.

Absolut SF

The brand that's known for creating special limited-edition flavors has finally introduced a vodka that's inspired by our hometown! A compelling blend of grape, dragon fruit, and papaya, Absolut SF [9] ($28) is the fifth flavor in its city collection. We'll be offering ours on the rocks with lemon juice, simple syrup, and soda; it's a refreshing twist on the classic Tom Collins.

Heinz Ketchup Collector's Edition

Glass bottles of America's favorite ketchup, Heinz, haven't been sold at retail for more than a decade — which is why this new, limited-edition bottle ($2 for 14 ounces), available through August, is ripe for the picking. When the tomato condiment was first introduced 135 years ago, it was bottled in clear glass; now you, too, can enjoy it in a glass bottling, with a label inspired by a pack of vintage tomato seeds. Pick it up at your local Walmart or Safeway.

Kraft Jet-Puffed Stackermallows

Just in time for camping season, Kraft has come out with a new line of marshmallows, Stackermallows [10] ($2.29), that have a flat-rectangular shape. Now you can have beautifully stacked s'mores all the time!

Pol Roger Extra Cuvee de Reserve Champagne

Celebrating a birthday or anniversary this month? Be like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and toast with Pol Roger Extra Cuvee de Reserve Champagne [11] ($42). It's an excellent classic French bubbly that's totally affordable. Plus while you drink it, you can imagine you were at the royal wedding [12]!

Govino Champagne Flutes

If you consider yourself a hostess with the mostess, you've got to get your hands on a set of Govino's new go anywhere flutes [13]. These plastic, stemless, reusable glasses are ideal for sipping sparkling wine poolside.

See's Candies Root Beer Lollypops

Dreaming of a frosty mug of root beer as the temperatures climb? Indulge in the drink's summertime spirit with a treat from See's, the Root Beer Lollypop [14] ($7.15 for 12). These uniquely square-shaped pops evoke the old-timey flavor of a root beer float, with a caramel-like finish.
