An Up, Up, and Away Wedding

I'm loving the up in the air trend, from hot air balloons to kites, so when I saw Liz and Rich's wedding that literally has an "Up, Up, and Away" theme, I just had to share it with you!

I'm loving the up in the air trend, from hot air balloons to kites, so when I saw Liz and Rich's wedding that literally has an "Up, Up, and Away" theme, I just had to share it with you! With so many handmade, out-of-the-box elements — hello, hot air balloon piñata and birdie cake topper — I'm having a difficult time coming back to earth from this one. Get carried away with me!

10 Great Alternatives to Wedding Guest Books

If you want to create a chronicle of the special guests at your wedding, why have them simply sign their names?
Alternatives to Wedding Guest Books

If you want to create a chronicle of the special guests at your wedding, why have them simply sign their names? I've found so many creative twists on the traditional guest book, I don't know how you could choose just one. I particularly love the idea of having guests take Polaroids and write messages on the bottom. No matter how the sentiments are delivered, it's the thought that counts. Here are 10 ways to rethink the guest book.

Lovely Little Vignette: Walking Down Memory Lane

We often spend weeks shopping for the perfect shoes, particularly for a special event like a wedding.

We often spend weeks shopping for the perfect shoes, particularly for a special event like a wedding. So why not turn your tootsies into tchotchkes?

In this vignette, a couple props up their wedding album and guest book alongside the bride's shoes and tiara from the big day. Below, she's displayed her 21st birthday champagne flute and two more pairs of shoes — maybe she changed halfway through the party? Whether you're a shoe fiend or crazy for something else, try adding unexpected items to a shelf of memorabilia.

Real Weddings: East Meets West With Chinoiserie

Mismatched bouquets

This post comes from Casa community member MissHotCocoa, who shared her wedding in the Lovely Little Vignettes group.

A little over a year ago, we had an East-meets-West, Chinese-meets-Jewish (Chewish) wedding.  For us, wedding planning served as an excuse to think through how we wanted to incorporate our cultures and identities into our marriage.  We loved the idea of kicking off our married lives together with a celebration that was as fusion and "Chewish" as our household was going to be, and we carried that mission across everything from our invitations to the decor to our ketubah (marriage contract), and vows.  While it wasn't easy, the end result really meant a lot to our families and friends.  And we had an outrageously fun time!

Got Milk (Glass)? Wedding Tablescapes Drink It In

I'll admit, I'm biased on this one.
Wedding Tablescapes With Milk Glass

I'll admit, I'm biased on this one. I love milk glass in the home, and I have to control the urge to snatch up vases, lamps, and cake pedestals with that creamy sheen at every flea market, garage sale, and antique store. So when I started noticing it popping up on wedding tablescapes, I had to share some of my favorites. There's something old timey about it, but its clean look makes it versatile enough for even a modern wedding. What do you think? Would you use milk glass in your wedding decor?

Come Party With Me: Sex and the City — The Look

For a Sex and the City 2 party, keep things glamorous and gorgeous with a black, white, and green color palette.

For a Sex and the City 2 party, keep things glamorous and gorgeous with a black, white, and green color palette. Let the buffet table with the spread of snacks be the focal point. Set a zebra-print runner down the middle and line with large different-shaped platters of food. To add height, serve the cupcakes on a black ruffled cake stand. Place a bin with sparkling wine to one side of the table and pour the cocktail in glass tumblers. Don't forget flowers, candles, napkins, and a poster from the movie to set the mood.

Come Party With Me: Twist Off — The Look

There's only one thing that can inspire the decorations at a Twister Party and that's polka dots!

There's only one thing that can inspire the decorations at a Twister Party and that's polka dots! Not just any polka dots, but red, blue, yellow, and green ones. From the napkins to the plates to the flowers to the lights, the colors of the game's playing board will be used throughout the party. The food will be served family style on large platters and in shallow bowls, so everyone can help themselves at their own leisure. Likewise, a polka-dot pitcher will sit on the bar awaiting those thirsty for a cocktail.

Come Party With Me: Brunch For Mom — The Look

I'm a firm believer that setting the table with a special tablecloth, nice china, and pretty touches really makes an occasion more memorable.

I'm a firm believer that setting the table with a special tablecloth, nice china, and pretty touches really makes an occasion more memorable. For a Mother's Day brunch, don't just treat mom to a delicious home-cooked meal; indulge her with a beautiful setting as well.

Place chargers and plates on top of the tablecloth and use cloth napkins. Select servingware the night before and bring all the food to the table on big platters or in oversize bowls. Pour the drinks into proper glassware. Fill a vase with a gorgeous bouquet of seasonal flowers.

How are you celebrating Mother's Day?
