Perfect October Dessert: Caramel Apples

Although they are messy and difficult to eat, caramel apples are super easy to make!

Although they are messy and difficult to eat, caramel apples are super easy to make! All you do is jam a stick into the apples and dip them into melted caramel squares.

This nostalgic dessert is a fabulous way to welcome the arrival of October, and would be fun to make with kids. It takes at least an hour for the caramel to harden, so make these apples in advance. Get the scrumptious recipe when you read more

Off to Market: Cake Mold

My grandfather's birthday is next week and I want to surprise him by making a fun shaped cake.

My grandfather's birthday is next week and I want to surprise him by making a fun shaped cake. I've never used a cake mold before, but since they're super trendy right now, I thought it would be fun to experiment with one.

Unfortunately, I don't own a single cake mold. Can you please help me find one? Search the web for a cake mold with a creative and original shape. It should be easy to clean or dishwasher safe. Save the molds you find in the Yum Market on TeamSugar with the keyword tag Cake Mold. Both my grandfather and I appreciate your selections!

For more info, geeksugar has put together an explanation on how to bookmark stuff from the web.

To help get you started, I've compiled a list of my favorite online stores, just read more

Forget the Snickerdoodle; Have a Snickers Cookie Instead

I was about ten years old when I had my first snickerdoodle cookie.

I was about ten years old when I had my first snickerdoodle cookie. I had no idea what one looked like, but recall being excited by the idea. A cookie, made with a Snickers candy bar? Oh how fantastic!

Imagine my surprise when the cookies arrived and I saw that they were just sugar cookies coated in cinnamon sugar. There were no Snickers bars, or doodles for that matter. While I enjoyed the cookie tremendously, it still left a small void in my heart. A void that could only be filled by cookies stuffed with mini Snickers bar. To get the void-filling, totally tasty recipe — peanut butter cookies with gooey candy chunks! — read more

Want a Bottle of Dirt? How About Perspiration?

If you're an NFL fan — specifically a Seattle Seahawks one — or a fan of weird flavor experiences, then you better get your credit card out right now.

If you're an NFL fan — specifically a Seattle Seahawks one — or a fan of weird flavor experiences, then you better get your credit card out right now. Seattle based Jones Soda Co. is releasing a limited edition box set of sodas created specifically for the Seattle Seahawks. The box, which contains five flavors (Dirt, Sports Cream, Perspiration, Natural Field Turf, and Sweet Victory), will be available online for $19.95 plus shipping. They're taking online pre-orders now, and the sodas will be available in select stores.

If these flavors are anything like their purposely wretched Holiday Editions, then we're all in for a special treat.

Jones Soda spokesperson Clare Bowles told Business Week that the four literally named flavors are "pretty lifelike," while the Sweet Victory one tastes like berries. Bowles adds: "Perspiration Soda is kind of salty tasting."

Ugh, I am totally repulsed, and yet strangely, I want to know where I can pick up a box of my own...

Spain Serves Up the World's Largest Salad

This weekend, the Spanish town of Pulpi set a new world record for the world's largest salad.

This weekend, the Spanish town of Pulpi set a new world record for the world's largest salad. The salad, which was tossed on Saturday, weighed 6,700 kilograms and consisted of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, peppers and olives. Twenty cooks took three hours to toss the salad, which will be distributed to Pulpi restaurants to serve to their clients for free.

I'm not sure why they decided to go for this record, but I'm always amazed by the amount of food that is used in these sort of things. What about you, what do you think of this record?

Monday's Leftovers: Pork and Grilled Veggie Salad

If you've got a great piece of leftover roasted pork loin, your natural instinct might be to slice it up and serve it in a sandwich.

If you've got a great piece of leftover roasted pork loin, your natural instinct might be to slice it up and serve it in a sandwich. While that's a completely acceptable solution —especially when paired with a fantastic pesto, or fruity fig jam — I thought it would be fun to put the ol' bbq to use before the weather turns completely. This simple salad relies on grilled veggies — if you don't have a grill use the broiler in your oven — and is perfect for an early fall meal. To get the recipe, read more

Yum's October Must Haves

October is that magical time of the year where the weather starts to change, fall hits us hard and the holidays are just around the corner.

October is that magical time of the year where the weather starts to change, fall hits us hard and the holidays are just around the corner. It also happens to be National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and — on the lighter side of things — National Cookie Month. To get you prepared for a fabulous October, I've rounded up some great products that you simply must have.

  • First on the list are these Limited Edition Riedel Pink Vinum Rosé Wineglasses. The pink stems represent Riedel's support of Living Beyond Breast Cancer and a portion of the proceeds is contributed to support breast cancer diagnosis and management. A set of two glasses can be yours for $40.
  • Next up is this American Honey Flight. Produced by artisanal beekeepers, there are nine different glass vials of raw honey, such as Maine Blueberry and Washington Buckwheat. Each vial is hand-corked and sealed with beeswax. Cost: $72.
  • An important part of October is the Halloween decor and pumpkin carving. To make your pumpkin carving an easy experience, get your hands on one of these Van Vacter Pumpkin Knives. It has a rounded safety tip and fine serrations for easy cutting. The dishwasher safe knife also features a non-slip handle and a stainless steel blade. $19.95 for one.
  • During the fall, a slow cooker is definitely a must have. This 6 Quart Premium VersaWare Slow Cooker from Rival features an inner pot that can be used directly on the stove. Now you can brown your meat directly in your slow cooker pot, and toss it in the oven to reheat. You can also store the pot in the freezer, or pop it in the microwave. Available for $54.99.
  • This month's final must have is a Baker's Half Sheet Pan with Storage Cover. The rust proof aluminum pan is perfect for even-heating and offers great cookies each time. The cover is an extra bonus, you can easily transport bar cookies, regular cookies and even cupcakes.
