Off to Market Recap: Dutch Oven

With the cold weather narrowing in, I'm starting to crave comforting, slow cooked soups, stews, and sauces.

With the cold weather narrowing in, I'm starting to crave comforting, slow cooked soups, stews, and sauces. In order to make delicious dishes, I've decided to invest in a new Dutch oven — a large pot with a tight fitting lid — that I can use for the rest of my life. No steam escapes when it's closed, making it the ideal cooking vessel for braising and stewing.

I asked you to help by searching for beautiful Dutch ovens that are durable, long lasting and in colors or designs. You bookmarked the pots in the Yum Market on TeamSugar with the keyword tag Dutch Oven.

Following some of your recommendations, I'm planning on investing in a set of Le Creuset Dutch ovens. They're expensive but suit all heat sources, are dishwasher safe, and come with a lifetime guarantee. Twinkle found these ovens in a gorgeous Caribbean blue color that I won't get sick of over time. Nice one Twink! Take a look at all of the ovens bookmarked by browsing below.

Fill Your Bagel Craving With a Panera Pink Ribbon Bagel

If you're looking for another way to justify your breakfast bagel, Panera Bread — sort of like Starbucks, but with baked goods — has just released a bagel in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

If you're looking for another way to justify your breakfast bagel, Panera Bread — sort of like Starbucks, but with baked goods — has just released a bagel in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The bagel, which is shaped like a ribbon and called the Pink Ribbon, is made with cherry chips, dried cherries and cranberries, vanilla, honey and brown sugar. A proceed of each Pink Ribbon bagel sale will benefit various breast cancer charities, including the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization. This is the seventh year Panera has done this promotion, last year they raised almost $200,000 from sales and donations.

Happy Hour: Lotus Vodka

I was delighted when the creator of Lotus, a new local vodka brand, offered to give us a private tasting.

I was delighted when the creator of Lotus, a new local vodka brand, offered to give us a private tasting. With its sleek, stark bottle and karma-friendly name, this vodka is smooth with no harsh bite. However it wasn't the elegant, subtle finish or its metallic, chic bottle that got me excited. It was its secret weapon.

Lotus is not your regular vodka: It's packed with vitamins and ginseng that make it one of the first anti-hangover alcohols on the market. Unlike many of the charcoal-filtered, stinging vodkas out there, Lotus has a high amount of the necessary vitamins to prevent crippling hangovers. While I don't recommend that you rush out and pound an entire bottle with hopes of feeling fine in the morning, I do suggest a cocktail or two of this delightful vodka.

It's served at bars all over San Francisco, but if you don't live in the Bay Area, purchase a bottle online and mix yourself a martini at home.

Nudo Is Neato! Adopt an Olive Tree of Your Own!

There's a little olive tree in my mom's backyard; the harvest isn't huge, but it allows her to create her own style of pickled olives and oils.

There's a little olive tree in my mom's backyard; the harvest isn't huge, but it allows her to create her own style of pickled olives and oils. If her olive harvest has you feeling jealous, then listen up and adopt your own olive tree. For £65 (~$130), the Nudo olive grove in Le Marche, Italy, lets folks "adopt" a tree for a year. You can let them assign any tree to you, or you can choose a specific part of the grove. Once the tree is yours, you will reap the benefits twice a year. The spring package contains a minimum of 1.5 liters of extra virgin olive oil, and the autumn package contains lemon infused extra virgin olive oil, and three different olive oil soaps scented with mint, rosemary, lemon and lavender. However, if you think that might be too much olive oil for you to handle, you can always purchase their olive oil directly.
