Off to Market Recap: Gift Baskets

My mentor recently moved to New York with his wife and new born baby.

My mentor recently moved to New York with his wife and new born baby. I miss him desperately and need to send him a housewarming gift. To show him my appreciation and send my well wishes, I want to get him a spectacular gift basket for Christmas. I asked you to help me find a gift basket filled with delicious goodies and awesome accessories. You bookmarked the goodies you discovered in the Yum Market on TeamSugar with the keyword tag Gift Baskets.

Turns out I asked the right people; you were super enthusiastic about gift baskets! In fact, TeamSugar member Country Betty put together an amazing list. I really like the simple elegance of the oil and vinaigrette gift basket that she found. The wooden spoon and fork are both a lovely and practical touch.

Thanks for your help! To see what everyone found, browse through all the baskets below.

Sorry, No Whopper For You!

How many of you love a big, juicy Whopper?

How many of you love a big, juicy Whopper? I have to admit, when I was in high school, that was my favorite off-campus lunch treat. There's something about the sauce that just tastes so great. These days I don't eat them that often, but when I'm on a road trip and have to choose between a Big Mac and a Whopper, I always choose the Whopper. Recently, as a publicity stunt, Burger King discontinued the Whopper at one location. They set up cameras and recorded the reactions. Some folks freak the heck out. They've been showing some of the clips in their recent television commercials, and they're absolutely great. They also pranked folks by replacing Whoppers with Big Macs and Wendy's burgers. YumSugar Gift Guide: Stuff Their Stockings With Treats

Growing up, one of the best parts of Christmas morning was emptying the Christmas stocking.

Growing up, one of the best parts of Christmas morning was emptying the Christmas stocking. It was a great warm up for the stack of presents under the tree. In fact, I'd go as far as to call it an amuse-bouche. My dad Santa was really great about adding fun little items, and my mom would fill the rest of the space with fruit. This year, I think I'll pay her back by adding this cute orange-shaped kitchen timer to hers. If you don't think fruit is a cute stocking stuffer addition, then stock up on Dark Chocolate Covered Cacoa Nibs from sweetriot. These little tins are filled with delicious chocolate bites, and are available in four flavors. Plus at $4 at tin — or $3.33 if you buy a case — they're expensive enough to feel indulgent, but not so expensive that it's unreasonable.

If you're looking for something funnier, LesserEvil has a lump of coal made from cocoa kettle corn that is sure to be a hit at the holidays. For more stocking-stuffer ideas, scroll through the list below.

Orange Ricotta Poundcake = Perfect Holiday Gift

The other day my dad watched Giada De Laurentiis make a scrumptious pound cake.

The other day my dad watched Giada De Laurentiis make a scrumptious pound cake. Moments after she took the cake from the oven he was on the phone begging me to make it. Never one to disappoint daddio, I made it over the weekend. The recipe is super easy and the cake is absolutely divine.

Ricotta cheese adds a smooth, creamy texture and orange zest gives the cake a delicious, holiday flavor. It would also make a marvelous hostess gift when wrapped up in decorative paper and ribbon. I served it with orange wedges for garnish and a simple Amaretto whipped cream. For the recipe, read more

Would You Eat a 12-Bird Roast?

If you think a turducken is an impressive display of protein, then you haven't seen anything yet.

If you think a turducken is an impressive display of protein, then you haven't seen anything yet. British farmer Anne Petch has created a massive 50 -lb. creation containing 12 different birds — 1. Turkey, 2. Goose, 3. Barbary duck, 4. Guinea fowl, 5. Mallard, 6. Poussin, 7. Quail, 8. Partridge, 9. Pigeon squab, 10. Pheasant, 11. Chicken, 12. Aylesbury duck — each one stuffed inside the next.

Dubbed the True Love Roast because it contains a different bird for each of the 12 days of Christmas, the roast costs around $1300 and serves 125 people. It also takes over 8 hours to cook completely and 4 hours to assemble. The whole thing is definitely extravagant, but I would absolutely have to partake in a bite or three. How about you, would you eat this roast?

Oh and if you think 12 birds isn't enough, Petch is hoping that they'll do a 21-bird roast next year.
