Real Simple Paper Food Constructions

One of my favorite things about Real Simple magazine is their beautifully bland photos.

One of my favorite things about Real Simple magazine is their beautifully bland photos. They're so stark and serene, I absolutely love them. However what I love more are those amazing paper contructions. Artist Matthew Sporzynski really does an amazing job, I mean he makes paper look droolworthy! In fact, I usually have to look twice before comprehending that it's entirely made from paper. I recently learned that Real Simple has beefed up their online content to include galleries of some of their projects including centerpieces, fall scenes, paper construction and more. I've included some of my favorite food constructions below, but be sure to check out the rest of the images when you have a chance.

The Ultimate Bar: Citrus Juicer

Any knowledgeable bartender knows that the best cocktails are made with real, fresh citrus juice.

Any knowledgeable bartender knows that the best cocktails are made with real, fresh citrus juice. Countless recipes call for just squeezed lemon, lime, orange, or grapefruit juices. I would love to tell you that I have a sleek, efficient, electric juicer, but the truth is I have an old fashioned metal one - like the juicer at right. It's reliable, gets the job done and is only annoying when I want to make lemonade (at which point I enlist elbow grease from the nearest guy). A citrus reamer works well when mixing drinks in a cocktail shaker, but it doesn't protect against seeds falling directly into your drink. If you've got a big bar and do a lot of entertaining, splurge on a chic standing juicer. To check out some different juicers, scroll through below.

Don't Lose Your Bottle Opener: Nail It

I've spent many a wasted minute running around my parties in search of the bottle opener.

I've spent many a wasted minute running around my parties in search of the bottle opener. It always gets lost, carried from one room to another, or absent mindedly pocketed by a guest. To ensure that you don't have to ask two thirds of your guests, have you seen the bottle opener?, hang it near the beer. With a hammer, nail a small nail at eye level above the beer cooler in an easy to spot place. Hang one or two bottle openers for guests to use to open their beer as they drink them.

Top Chef 3.3 - Family Favorites Recap

*Zzzzzz Oh sorry about that.

*Zzzzzz* Oh sorry about that. Last night's Top Chef sorta knocked me out there. Did you guys watch it? What did you think? Although Ted Allen was finally there, and the guest judge - Alfred Portale - had the potential to make it all work, I have to admit, I was utterly bored. Even the challenge - update old school American classics - seemed recycled. I know I'm being a bit hypocritical, first I complain that it's too dramatic and not focused on the food, and now I'm complaining that there's not enough drama. Can't I have my cake and eat it too? Or should that be, have my conch and eat it too? If you're still curious to see what happened, and there is actually one small off-air controversy, read more

Fast & Easy Dinner: Baked Polenta with Zucchini and Tomato-Pepper Sauce

Creamy, buttery polenta, topped with a chunky vegetable sauce and melted mozzarella cheese, makes for a great vegetarian meal.

Creamy, buttery polenta, topped with a chunky vegetable sauce and melted mozzarella cheese, makes for a great vegetarian meal. A quick sauce is made by simmering a can of crushed tomatoes with fresh oregano and sautéed onions, peppers, and zucchini. There are a few steps, so multi-task: pulse-chop the veggies in the food processor and bake the polenta while the sauce cooks. Chill some white wine or rose and serve yourself a huge heaping because this is decadently divine. For the recipe to your Thursday night dinner, read more
