Yum Market Finds: Cookbook Crazy

I recently turned my windowsill into a makeshift bookshelf and it's practically over flowing with wonderful books.

I recently turned my windowsill into a makeshift bookshelf and it's practically over flowing with wonderful books. As I was browsing the bookmarks in the TeamSugar Yum Market, I came across a few more books I want to add to my collection. You have saved your favorite cookbooks and they sound so interesting, especially the Moosewood Restaurant New Classics cookbook that rothchild submitted. I've been wanting to experiment more with vegetarian cooking and she calls this a vegetarian cookbook at its best. Check out the books below to see where others find their recipes.

Happy Hour: Cilantro Martini

I met two of my oldest gal pals for happy hour at Two restaurant here in San Francisco.

I met two of my oldest gal pals for happy hour at Two restaurant here in San Francisco. We sat at the bar and acted the way long time girlfriends usually do when they see each other: giddy. Laura, who is a member of the staff at Two, told me that I had to try the cilantro martini. Using cilantro to infuse a cocktail?! Pure genius! This cocktail was smooth and refreshing - an absolutely excellent aperitif. My tastebuds were souring, my palette tantalized, and my heart racing (not from the drink but from the very cute bartender!). Like any resourceful party gal I ran home and worked out the recipe on my own. Like cilantro? Like vodka? Make this cocktail for your next happy hour! To get the recipe just read more

52 Weeks of Baking: Cheese Chips

A few years ago, while cleaning out my cheese drawer, I decided to shred up all the leftovers and bake up a batch of cheese chips.

A few years ago, while cleaning out my cheese drawer, I decided to shred up all the leftovers and bake up a batch of cheese chips. Cheese chips are essentially mounds of cheese heated at a temperature low enough to melt them, but high enough to change the cheese from chewy to crispy. The end result is a delicious snack that pairs well with a crisp salad. Oh and did I mention that it's ridiculously simple and only takes about 5 minutes to whip up? To figure out how to make your own cheese chips, read more

Does Your Knife Need Sharpening?

If you think your knives are sharp, but aren't completely sure, here's a simple test you can do to find out.

If you think your knives are sharp, but aren't completely sure, here's a simple test you can do to find out. Just hold a sheet of paper away from you and try slicing simple vertical strips. If the knife doesn't cut the paper, or snags as it slices through, then it's time to take them to the knife sharpener! Tip: Some grocery stores (including several large chains, depending on the location) and kitchenware stores offer free knife sharpening.

Come Party With Me

Come Party With Me: Graduation - Music

No graduation party is complete without a playlist of sappy songs with lyrics that discuss lost innocence, having the time of your life, and parting ways with old friends.

No graduation party is complete without a playlist of sappy songs with lyrics that discuss lost innocence, having the time of your life, and parting ways with old friends. At my sister's graduation party, I'll be serving up her favorite foods (empanadas and a frozen chocolate peanut butter dessert) amongst her school colors while Green Day's "Good Riddance" plays softly in the background. Compile a playlist of old and new songs to please the wide range of ages that will be in attendance at your backyard bash. Throw in the grad's favorite songs and my dear fabulous friend BuzzSugar's graduation playlist and you'll have several hours of music for the soundtrack of your party. Got a great grad song? Tell me below so I can add it to my playlist!
