What To Do If You Both Have Frying Pans

So you've gone and gotten yourself hitched - or maybe you've just moved in with your significant other - and now, along with combining your closets and starting your life together, you've got to figure out what to do with all that cookware.

So you've gone and gotten yourself hitched - or maybe you've just moved in with your significant other - and now, along with combining your closets and starting your life together, you've got to figure out what to do with all that cookware. If one of you loves to cook, it should be easier as you probably won't have two sets of everything. However, what do you do when both of you love to cook? Whose frying pans get to stick around and whose are carted off to charity?

  • Begin by taking stock of everything you have. Look through your stuff and see if there's anything you haven't used in a year. If so, toss it out, it's just taking space anyway. Have your partner do the same. If you can't bare to part with things, stick them in a box marked charity. If you don't pull them out of the box in the next year, it's time to say farewell.

  • Next look at the things you have in common. Do you both have microwaves? If so, whose is better? Does yours have a finicky button? Some of the things are going to be easy to determine. While others (maybe you both swear by your saucepans) are going to be more difficult. The key here is for each of you to give a little. After all, you love your honey more than you love your Le Crueset... right?
  • It's okay to break up a set. Sure your lime green pan looks amazing (especially with all the other lime green pans), but don't you prefer the way his skillet cooks things up? If you don't have the room and only use one, go with ability over looks. I'd rather have pretty food than pretty pans!

Xanthan Gum
A stabilizer that is produced from fermented corn sugar. It's used as a thickener for things such as salad dressings or dairy products and is a key ingredient in molecular gastronomy (think of all of the foams you're seeing on menus).

Xanthan gum is also often used as a substitute for wheat gluten in order to add volume to bread and other gluten-free baked goods.

Fast. Simple. Delicious. Dessert. When you see those 4 words, a decadent cake may not come to mind, but trust me you can make a cake in minutes if you start with a box.

Fast. Simple. Delicious. Dessert. When you see those 4 words, a decadent cake may not come to mind, but trust me you can make a cake in minutes if you start with a box. In the summer I can't be bothered to spend so much time in the kitchen - especially if it's hot out! With this recipe, a summer cake - best served chilled - is put together by taking help from the store in order to save time and energy - you won't even need to win a brand new mixer to whip this one up. Melt in your mouth yellow cake is topped with a pistachio-cream cheese-pineapple mixture, followed by a fluffy layer of cool whip and a dusting of chopped nuts. Sound tempting doesn't it? Off To Market Recap: Outdoor Eating Area

Two summers ago, my parents put in a gigantic new deck at our vacation house.

Two summers ago, my parents put in a gigantic new deck at our vacation house. It's gorgeous with smooth, stained wood and a luscious view of the trees below. This summer they have finally decided to (sorry for the pun) deck the deck out with chairs, tables, umbrellas, citronella candles, and accessories like tablecloths and tiki torches. Last week I asked you to help me help them by searching for great pieces for a beautiful outdoor eating area. You looked for weather resistant pieces that are perfect for a cabin in the mountains and you bookmarked the stuff you found in the Yum Market with the keyword tag Outdoor Eating Area.

I really liked the bar that daddio49 saved and can totally picture my dad commanding a party behind it! But, what I absolutely loved (seriously I'm so buying these!) were her hanging candle holders. I'm crazy about candles and we could hang these from the roof, deck, and trees to create glowing, elegant light. Thanks for your help ladies!

TV Dinners: Spanglish - Thomas Keller's Sandwich

I was super excited when the movie Spanglish came out a few years ago.

I was super excited when the movie Spanglish came out a few years ago. After all, it features two of my great loves: food and Spanish! It was actually a disappointment to me - Tea Leoni's character ruined the entire movie for me - but the scene where Adam Sandler's character makes himself a delicious looking sandwich and pairs it with a cold glass of beer has stood out in my mind. At the time, I remember thinking, man that looks good. Little did I know that it was what the director, James L. Brooks, was going for! In his stage directions, he stated that the main character would make a snack viewers will remember and copy. In order to do so, he turned to America's most famed culinary mind, Thomas Keller, and asked him to create a sandwich that would entice the audience. Keller, who helped Sandler prepare for the movie, came up with what may be the most simple, best tasting sandwich ever: a jazzed up version of a BLT.
