I was going through the Yum Market this afternoon and I noticed that there seemed to be a lot of animal inspired finds. Seems like some of you think the kitchen's a jungle, or perhaps a zoo? Either way, I really loved it and wanted to share these with you. From hippo chip clips to alligator watermelon holders and everything in between - including dachshund knife rests - you guys really surprised me with your finds. When I go out to eat, I'm too full of tasty appetizers, scrumptious entrees, and full bodied wines to order a decadent dessert. On occasion I'll order a tiramisu or creme brulee to share with my mom, but I never really find myself ordering something as simple as an ice cream sundae. Why? Well because I treat myself to them at home! My dad and I are big time sundae fans, and when we get a craving we enjoy them in the comfort of our very own living room. If it's just us, I make a quick sundae with store bought ingredients, but if I'm serving them at a dinner party, I go all out making homemade ice cream and homemade chocolate fudge. Whether you are skilled in the culinary arts, or still learning how to hold a knife, you should have an ice cream sundae recipe up your sleeve. So take your pick, just read more
Remember back in 2005 when everyone was reading French Women Don't Get Fat, Mireille Guiliano's
diet lifestyle book about eating the French way in order to lose weight and fully enjoy life to its fullest? Being a huge fan of all things European, and a promoter of everything in moderation, I enjoyed reading it tremendously. It's the only food book that Fab has ever laid a finger on, making me think it's fashionable enough to flip through her sequel French Women for All Seasons: A Year of Secrets, Recipes, and Pleasure. This book sits in my to-read stack and I can't wait to return to Guiliano's chic, but know-it-all, mom who whole heartily promotes drinking Champagne as often as possible! The topics of eating locally and cooking with produce that's in season is all the rage right now, and I'm curious to see her French view on the subjects. Has anyone read her second book? Is it worth bumping to the top of my must-read list?
A super potent brandy made from the distillation of Muscat grapes in Chile and Peru. Aged in special containers to prevent the liquor from absorbing either the color or flavor of the wood.
Last night at nine, I sat down to enjoy the final episode of Hell's Kitchen. Boy was I in for a shock when at ten I realized it was far from over - there is still one episode left! It was much tamer than it normally is with the finalists, Rock and Bonnie, only entering the kitchen for a quick 30 minutes. All of the previous episodes were reviewed, and the last six contestants were brought back to help the finalists in their toughest dinner challenge. To see what happens when Bonnie and Rock design their own restaurants and are whisked off to Vegas for a surprise challenge, read more
Watching this video of our very own 7bits win a peach pie eating contest makes me wonder just how much I could eat for a prize. Do you think you could do it? Would you consider entering a food eating contest?
What was this post going to be about? I completely forgot what I was going to write. If only I drank more caffeine...
According to a new French study, drinking three or more daily cups of coffee or tea may help women preserve their memory. Participants in the study took several tests over the course of four years. The women who stated they drank at least three cups of coffee or tea per day showed less of a drop in test scores during the study, than their non-caffeine drinking counterparts. Although the study was conducted on older women (65+), and is only observational, I can't help but wonder whether if I should start my daily coffee routine back up.
The best thing about hosting a themed dinner party, is that it's fairly easy to create a menu. Select dishes that you feel confident serving to guests. Instead of offering several sit down courses, have appetizers ready and waiting when the guests arrive. Guests can mingle, sip cocktails, and enjoy hors d'oeurves before sitting down to the dining table. Instantly transport everyone to a sandy island with balmy breezes by serving tropical chicken on sugarcane skewers with peanut-plantain dipping sauce or vegetarian spring rolls.
