I Heart Food. So Do Babies.

This weekend, while I was at the Treasure Island Festival, I stumbled upon one of the best foodie shirts ever. The folks at Like Minded People have created the i {heart} food. shirt. Only, I prefer to read it as I heart chomping down on food. It's available in men's and women's sizes for $20 or as a baby onesie for $16 and a toddler tee for $18. I think it's great for adults, but think it's even better for the wee ones.

Bread Pudding Two Ways - Beginner & Expert

When I went to dinner for my dad's birthday, one of the desserts we sampled was a delicious bread pudding.

When I went to dinner for my dad's birthday, one of the desserts we sampled was a delicious bread pudding. An uncomplicated peasant's dessert, bread pudding is baked, cubed bread soaked in a custard-like mixture of milk, eggs, sugar, and vanilla. It's a dessert that you may not think to make at home, but one whose comforting simplicity is worth it. To encourage that everyone give bread pudding an experimental try in their kitchen, I've found two recipes — one for the inexperienced and one for the pro — so check them out, just read more

Cheers To Miner Wines

For my birthday I invited a small group of friends to join me for a wine tasting in Napa.

For my birthday I invited a small group of friends to join me for a wine tasting in Napa. We visited a few wineries, but our favorite was Miner family vineyards. The excellent PR girl had arranged a private tasting and tour, complete with a surprise birthday cake for yours truly! Our guide, the jovial and informative Jaime, began by giving us a sampling of the Miner Sauvignon Blanc and Rosato. Next we moved on to the Sangiovese and the Pinot Noir — both of which were outstanding. However the best wine was the limited edition Benedetto blend series. A smooth and bountiful red, this wine was like heaven in a glass. Jaime lead us through the wine making rooms and into the Miner caves. Nestled in the base of a small mountain, the caves hold thousands of aging barrels of wine. We sampled a 2006 Malbec which they plan on using to make their signature blends. Later he showed us the private cave dining room where we had an impromptu birthday party. If you are planning a trip to wine country, Miner winery is a MUST stop. If you won't be coming to California anytime in the near future seek out these wines at your local wine shop. Miner wines have been served at the White House so I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. To check out the entire gallery of images from my trip there, read more

Come Party With Me

Come Party With Me: Season Premiere - Menu (Part I)

This week I am planning a watching party for a television show's season premiere.

This week I am planning a watching party for a television show's season premiere. One of my favorite fall shows, Ugly Betty, serves as the theme and centerpiece of the party. Since Betty Suarez's family is from Mexico, that region's authentic dishes will make up my menu. When my friends arrive I'll have large colorful bowls filled with classic tomato salsa, tomatillo guacamole, and blue corn chips. Later I'll remove a platter of queso fundido from the oven to serve with warmed tortillas and chicken in green sauce. Guests can make their own soft tacos by choosing from any of the aforementioned toppings and fillings. To get these recipes, read more
