Sadly, Tomatoes Are Not in Season Right Now

A friend of mine was complaining about how she had an awful caprese salad the other day.

A friend of mine was complaining about how she had an awful caprese salad the other day. I felt sad for her food misstep, but I couldn't really feel sorry for her. After all, neither tomatoes nor basil are in season right now.

Yet my friend doesn't seem to be the only one who is setting herself up for food disappointment. I snapped this pic at my local market the other day. Looks like they must be getting a lot of complaints about sad tomatoes, too.

So, if tomatoes are out, what is in? To get a list of some fruits and veggies that are in their prime right now, read more

Would You Eat This PizzaBurger?

Giant burgers are all the rage these days.

Giant burgers are all the rage these days. While you could order one from Mallie's Sports Grill and Bar, you could also make one in the comfort of your own home. Don't know where to find a giant burger bun? Use frozen pizzas! That's what Dustin and his friends did when they made this pizzaburger. The oversized beef patty is sandwiched between a couple of pizzas making for one mess of a meal. I'd probably just take a bite or two to try it out. How about you? Would you eat this pizzaburger?

The Guide to the Chocolate Guide

If you've ever found yourself in a new city and wished you knew where to go to find a chocolate payload then consider yourself lucky.

If you've ever found yourself in a new city and wished you knew where to go to find a chocolate payload then consider yourself lucky. Just in time for chocolate month, the folks at TasteTV have released The Chocolate Guide, a book on local chocolatiers, chocolate makers, chocolate shops, and more. This edition covers the West Coast — it says it covers California, Utah, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia; however, I found it to be really California-centric — and gives you descriptions and photos of each place. It's a pretty comprehensive guide — to California anyway — and would make for a fun chocolate road-trip tour guide. However, as much as I love drooling over chocolate, I found it to be somewhat frustrating. To see my thoughts on the book, read more

Free McSkillet Burritos This Thursday and Friday

A few months ago, I saw a sign outside of a McDonald's that said "Now Serving the McSkillet Burrito."

A few months ago, I saw a sign outside of a McDonald's that said "Now Serving the McSkillet Burrito." When I read it I had to chuckle a little bit, this was near San Francisco's Mission District, an area known for its burritos. At the time, the McSkillet wasn't nationally available, and I wondered if it was just something that franchise was trying to compete with the local market. I wondered what they tasted like, but wasn't curious enough to go try one.

Well, now I've got a chance to do it for free. And if you're also curious about what the now nationally-available burrito tastes like, you'll be able to do it for free, too. This Thursday and Friday (Feb. 28 and 29) McDonald's is giving away free McSkillet Burritos with purchase of a medium or large drink. They are expecting to give away 1 million burritos each day, but you better remember early, it's available during breakfast hours only.

So will you be headed to McD's for your free McSkillet?

Krispy Kreme Lightens Up . . . Sort Of

Here's one for the "Do we really need these?"

Here's one for the "Do we really need these?" books. The folks at Krispy Kreme have decided to offer a limited edition Lightly Glazed doughnut. From now until March 23, you can get a doughnut that is "lightly" drizzled with their signature Original Glaze. I haven't found any nutritional info on these doughnuts, but something tells me that given the amount of glaze, it can't be that much better for you. What do you guys think? Do we need a lightly glazed doughnut? Will you be headed out to try one?

The other day DearSugar asked me to check out a recipe she was considering making. While the dish — chicken lettuce wraps with Asian flavors — sounded delicious, the recipe was unclear and difficult to follow.

Later that same day, I found myself grubbing on Betelnut's lettuce wraps thinking, I need to find a better recipe! Luckily, I've found two recipes. They are both straight-forward and delectable. One involves more ingredients, making it a little more complicated. Check out the two and choose which appetizer recipe suits your needs when you read more
