They're on Your Soda Bottle, Making You Laugh

I'll admit it now, I really love the awful lolspeak and lolcats, and I'm surprised by how much it's taken off.

I'll admit it now, I really love the awful lolspeak and lolcats, and I'm surprised by how much it's taken off. At first it was just something that people who spend too much time on the internet understood, and now almost everyone has seen the cheezburger cat that started it all. (If you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out these lolcat examples.)

So why am I talking about lolcats? Well, the folks at Jones Soda — yes the ones responsible for dirt flavored soda — want to put pictures of them on their bottles. That's right, lolcats will be in your stores adorning your soda!

Right now there's a contest to find the best lolcat for the labels. You can vote on other submissions or submit one yourself. You have until Apr. 25 to do it, so get cracking! I think this is so fun, u noes wut i meanz?

Name That Dish!

I'm not sure what he was cooking when he got grazed with a stray bullet, but Cajun chef Paul Prudhomme could have been making the Southern specialty pictured below.

Come Party With Me: Spring Picnic — Drinks

Since the menu and dessert for my Spring picnic are super traditional, I've decided to carry the theme over to the drinks too.

Since the menu and dessert for my Spring picnic are super traditional, I've decided to carry the theme over to the drinks too. What screams picnic more than lemonade and iced tea? While the iced tea will be classic and simple, the lemonade is a jazzed up adult version with vodka and mint.

Both concoctions taste better after sitting for several hours, so make the drinks in advance. Pour into pitchers with lids or a thermos for easy transportation to the park. Don't forget to fill a cooler with other beverages — water, beer, sodas, sparkling juices, Orangina, etc. — for those who prefer not to drink lemonade or iced tea. For the drink recipes, read more

Top Chef Quiz: Block Partay!

Last night's episode of Top Chef was definitely a fun one.

Last night's episode of Top Chef was definitely a fun one. The chefs broke into two teams to create food for a block party. Even though I was a bit bummed to have another group challenge, it was neat to watch them cook for a crowd.

Did you watch? Each week we'll find out just how much you've been paying attention. Think you know your stuff, then take our quiz!

Say Farewell to Herb Peterson, Inventor of the Egg McMuffin

Folks, it's a sad day in the breakfast world.

Folks, it's a sad day in the breakfast world. Herb Peterson, the 89-year-old inventor of the Egg McMuffin, passed away Tuesday at his home in Santa Barbara. While most may not be familiar with his name, they are definitely familiar with his creations. In addition to coming up with McDonald's first national slogan, "Where Quality Starts Fresh Every Day," and creating Ronald McDonald's outfit, he introduced the world to the deliciousness that is the Egg McMuffin. He created the sandwich for McDonald's in 1972, and the fast-food breakfast world was never again the same. What began at his McDonald's franchise in Santa Barbara soon spread across the nation and was happily gobbled up by millions. It's been a while since I've had one — I'm never early enough for breakfast! — but I'm going to have to remedy that so I can raise a proper toast muffin to Herb.

Will you do the same? Are you interested in Egg McMuffins?

Not Your Regular Nachos: Black and White Nachos

Now that Winter soups are a thing of the past, it's time to move onto a more interesting adventure.

Now that Winter soups are a thing of the past, it's time to move onto a more interesting adventure. Recently I told you about my desire to open a restaurant devoted entirely to nachos, but in order for me to do so, I'll need a repertoire of nachos recipes. So to get started I've created a new feature entirely devoted to nachos!

Not your — not-yo, sounds like nacho — regular nachos, I'll be dishing out more than just tortilla chips and melted cheese. To get things started, I made a classic style dish that used items I already had in my pantry or fridge. To see how I made these black and white nachos, read more

Would You Drink This Aloe Juice?

Last week I saw a can of juice I'd never seen before: pomegranate-flavored aloe juice from Korean company J1.

Last week I saw a can of juice I'd never seen before: pomegranate-flavored aloe juice from Korean company J1. The color was a vivid orange-pink, and although it looked like one solid color, there were actually bits of floating chunks in it. The almost-invisible chunks are the aloe, and they have the consistency of somewhat thick Jello. I was surprisingly pleased by this drink, and liked the way it tasted. It was a light pomegranate flavor and was cool and refreshing. The texture was a little odd — it was slimy and thick at the same time — and the whole thing made me think of dessert. I would definitely try it again, and yet I can see how the texture would really bother some people. Are you one of those people, or would you drink this juice?

An Inconveniently Convenient Bag

I have always had a thing for fabulous handbags.

I have always had a thing for fabulous handbags. Last year, when it became uncool to use environmentally unfriendly plastic and paper grocery bags, I suddenly started collecting reusable, canvas grocery bags. Last season I was obsessed with the I'm Not A Plastic Bag statement tote and this year I'm crazy about The Inconvenient Bag ($19.99) carryall.

Neither paper nor plastic, this large canvas tote — available in four different designs — is the size of a normal, brown grocery bag and can hold up to 45 pounds. The bags are made in LA from biodegradable cotton and non-toxic dyes. While it may not be as convenient as carrying groceries home in paper or plastic, toting my food in the inconvenient bag, makes me feel like I'm doing my part to help save the world.

If you don't have a reusable tote, I highly recommend this fun, fashionable, eco-friendly bag!
