Host a Festive Earth Dinner

Looking for another way to celebrate Earth Day?

Looking for another way to celebrate Earth Day? Then start a new Earth Day tradition by hosting an Earth Dinner. An Earth Dinner is a dinner where you know where each ingredient on your table comes from. It's been completed with local and organic produce, as well as humanely-raised animals. Host your first one this year, and plan to do it each year thereafter.

And, if you're looking for something to discuss during dinner, there's a set of Earth Dinner Cards ($10) to help you out. These creative cards are designed to get you thinking and talking about the foods and folks you love. They say things like, "Describe the first time you tasted something you picked off a tree, vine, stem or pulled out of the ground?" and "Who in your life really understands how to make the food you love?" but you can see more if you download a free set of eight cards.

I think the cards are fun way to get conversation going, and would be neat at Earth Day or any other day. How about you? Would you want a set of these? And would you consider hosting an Earth Dinner?

Would You Eat This Piece of Pizza?

At first glance, this slice of pizza looks like regular cheese pizza.

At first glance, this slice of pizza looks like regular cheese pizza. However, if you look closer, you'll notice something extraordinary about the topping. It's a macaroni and cheese pizza! Made and sold at Ian's Pizza — a popular pizza joint in Madison, WI and Chicago — the mac and cheese pizza is a best selling, crowd pleaser. I've never heard of mac n' cheese pizza and would love to get my hands on a slice of it. How about you? Would you eat macaroni and cheese-topped pizza?

Come Party With Me: Wedding — Menu

When planning the menu for your wedding, it's important to remember what time of year the ceremony will take place in.

When planning the menu for your wedding, it's important to remember what time of year the ceremony will take place in. It's tempting to want to incorporate Spring's asparagus and strawberries into the menu, but Elena's wedding will take place in October, a time when neither asparagus or strawberries are in season.

Thus this menu features seasonal twists on classic, yet sophisticated dishes that highlight some of Sean and Elena's favorite foods. A mixture of meat and vegetarian appetizers will start off the evening. Since the couple is originally from Buffalo, NY, spicy buffalo wing bites are a must. Double mushroom pizza is a nice vegetarian alternative.

Elena loves beets, so a roasted beet and goat cheese salad makes a lovely first course. For the entrée, guests have a choice of halibut with Fall vegetables or steak with blue cheese potatoes. Both main dishes are decadent and delicious.

Earth Day Happy Hour: 360 Vodka

Saving the planet, one glass at a time.

Saving the planet, one glass at a time. This is the slogan for 360 Vodka an "eco-luxury" vodka. Although the vodka is distilled four times and then filtered five, it uses an energy-efficient process and creates very little waste. The labels are 100-percent recycled and processed in a cholorine-free manner, the bottle is 85-percent recycled, and the facility that filters it has also gone through measures to reduce its eco footprint over the last several years.

At the Earth Friendly Distilling factory — where 360 is created — there is a daily recycling program and on-site recycling center, they have no paper towels or cups in their breakrooms, and any generated oil is collected and reused. They also state that by creating the vodka their way, they've saved 113 trees, 48,371 gallons of water, and 5,409 pounds of solid waste. And every bottle cap returned to the distillery will result in a $1 donation to selected environmental organizations.

I think all of this is rather great for Earth Day and every day, but what I really want to know is how it tastes. The four distillings and five filterings are supposed to result in a clean, smooth vodka. I know that it might be a bit gimmicky, but their plant is at least doing what many other factories should be doing. So tell me, are you interested in trying this vodka — I found it online for $32.99 — or do you think it's all big marketing scheme?

Michael Symon Takes on the Impossible

Remember when Robert Irvine was fired from his job at Food Network, and how many of you lamented the fact because you really enjoy Dinner: Impossible.

Remember when Robert Irvine was fired from his job at Food Network, and how many of you lamented the fact because you really enjoy Dinner: Impossible. Well quit your crying the show's not going anywhere. Food Network has said that they've been hoping to replace Irvine, and it appears they finally have.

Last year's Next Iron Chef winner, Michael Symon, will take over the Impossible reigns. The show's format won't be changing, Symon won't know where he's headed and he won't know his mission until he gets there. However, fans of the show will now be thrilled — or disappointed, depending on which camp you're in — to hear that the show will now be 60 minutes instead of 30. I personally think this is a great call, 30 minutes always seemed too heavily edited.

In addition to starring in this show — which officially begins in September, with one episode airing in July — Symon will also appear on Iron Chef America. And, if that wasn't enough, he's still got his restaurants Lola and Lolita in Cleveland, as well as a new restaurant opening in Detroit.

So tell me, are you planning on checking out the all-new Dinner: Impossible?

Rationing! It's Not Just For Your Grandparents Anymore
Shoppers at the Costco in Mountain View, CA felt the first tremors of the clamp down this week — no rice! The usually packed shelves held but a few jumbo bags of rice and shoppers faced something the US hasn't really seen since WWII: rationing.

Living It Up at Les Deux

On a recent Saturday night, I found myself living it up at Hollywood hot spot Les Deux. Open since 2006, Les Deux is a popular nightclub — frequented by LA's elite actors and fabulous starlets — set inside a remodeled house. Before the bar opened, I had the chance to speak with owner Sylvain Bitton and take a behind the scenes look at the space. To check out what happened — and see which celebrity I befriended — while partying at Les Deux, click the "Start" button.
