Happy Hour: Sam Adams Cranberry Wit
Since 1996, the American brewing company Samuel Adams has hosted an annual homebrew contest. This year, both of the winners were Bay Area residents, so I found myself at a tasting that celebrated the chosen beers. While I enjoyed Alex Drobshoff's Traditional Bock and Mike McDole's Double IPA, it was Carissa Sweigart's Cranberry Wit that was particularly memorable.
Carissa, a sales rep for Sam Adams, was the winner of the employee section of the competition. She used ingredients from her howetown, Cape Cod, to create a sensationally complex beer.
With hints of orange zest, cinnamon, and cranberry, this beer was different from any brew I've ever tasted. Topped with a creamy head, the Cranberry Wit has a cloudy yellow color and medium body. The autumnal flavors of the wit seem ideal for the colder months.
Have you tried the Cranberry Wit? Or any of the beers that come in Sam Adams Longshot Six-Pack ($9.99)? Which was your favorite?

KFC President Issues YouTube Apology, Offers Raincheck
Oprah's KFC promotion for a free Kentucky Grilled Chicken meal has not only caused a lot of controversy, but sky-high demand also has KFC stores across the country turning away customers. In response, KFC president Roger Eaton has taken a strikingly similar approach to Domino's by issuing an apology to patrons via YouTube. In exchange for the inconvenience customers have gone through, Eaton offers a raincheck for a grilled chicken meal, plus a free Pepsi.
Do you think Eaton did the right thing? I question whether customers who've already redeemed the free chicken will simply cash in on more gratis grub. Will you redeem KFC's raincheck offer?
Do You Bring Your Own Wine to Restaurants?
Restaurants, challenged to find a new way to lure customers, are promoting bring-your-own-wine programs. Yesterday, one Sugar girl told me about her father who loves to bring his own bottles of wine when dining out. I bring wine to casual restaurants that aren't known for choice varietals, but when I eat at an outstanding restaurant, I like to have the sommelier surprise me. What about you?
Fast & Easy Dinner: Spinach Salad With Chili Pepper Chops
For some strange reason, my father has an aversion to consuming leafy green vegetables. However, when the greens — in this case spinach — are paired with a tender, succulent cut of meat, he's more inclined to eat them. This recipe is perfect for my dad and guys like him.
It expertly combines a spicy pork chop with salty bacon bits and fresh spinach leaves. A tangy red onion vinegar sauce finishes off the surprisingly hearty dish. You won't believe how simple the recipe is, so get it now and read more

Pretty pastels make for a welcoming and elegant look at a bridal shower brunch. Since people will bring gifts, designate an area away from the buffet for them to place the presents. Cover the tables with a floral printed cloth.
Serve the frittata on a round white serving platter and the smoked salmon on floral printed ones. Layer the parfait in a large trifle dish. Fill glass pitchers with citrus juice and arrange pink tumblers nearby.
