Would You Eat Deep-Fried Butter?

The biggest buzz all over the blogosphere is deep-fried butter.

The biggest buzz all over the blogosphere is deep-fried butter. Even though it's nothing new — apparently Paula Deen's sung the praises of it before — it's one of eight contenders vying for the Big Tex Choice Award at this year's State Fair of Texas. "Pure butter is whipped, then injected with different flavors, surrounded by dough and fried," described The Dallas Morning News.

I'll try anything once, but I'm pretty sure this invention has taken deep-fried food one step too far. At 810 calories per stick — and that's before it's been deep-fried — I'm pretty sure even the biggest butter lover, Julia Child, would find it a bit obscene. Would you eat it?

Last week, my desk was covered with bags of Cape Cod Popcorn.

Last week, my desk was covered with bags of Cape Cod Popcorn. This week, it was another comforting snack — pouches of Granola Nut Clusters, a new item from granola bar pioneer Nature Valley. The product, which is offered in four different flavors, comes in 5-ounce resealable bags for a reasonable price ($3.79). But were the nut clusters everything they'd been cracked up to be? The final answer is after the jump

Definition: Terrine

A terrine can be one of several things.

A terrine can be one of several things. Its original definition refers to an oblong, earthenware pan with straight sides, used for cooking and serving food.

The word has also evolved to mean the various dishes prepared in the loaf pan, most commonly a type of country-style pâté made with finely chopped pieces of meat.

Terrines aren't limited to meat, however, and may refer to other courses like frozen desserts. Often, ingredients are layered into the pan and the loaf is served sliced, revealing a pattern.

Come Party With Me: My Birthday Party — Drinks

There's lots going on with the drinks at my 28th birthday dinner.

There's lots going on with the drinks at my 28th birthday dinner. I plan on serving a different wine with each course, but before we sit down to the meal, I'll offer guests glasses of a specialty cocktail. Since the menu is rustic Italian, the cocktail features Italy's most popular aperitif and campari. When mixed with a sweet late-harvest wine and fresh-squeezed orange juice, the vibrantly colored spirit tastes far from bitter.

At dinner, I pair the salad with a crisp, dry, minerally Italian white wine. A fruity aromatic rosé will balance out the richness of the cheesy pasta course. For the seafood stew entree, I'll serve a light-bodied softer red wine.

Finally, there's only one thing to sip with the dessert: a slightly sweet sparkling wine! To check out the campari cocktail recipe, read more
