Roasted Root Vegetable Pasta Is a Cold-Weather Wonder

Over the weekend, when the cold, wet drizzle refused to let up, I developed an undeniable desire to load up on starchy, al dente pasta.

Over the weekend, when the cold, wet drizzle refused to let up, I developed an undeniable desire to load up on starchy, al dente pasta. I couldn't just ditch my resolve to eat only nutrient-rich, wholesome fare, so I came to a compromise by preparing a healthful pasta with root vegetables.

In addition to being full of protein, fiber, and more vitamins than I have room to list, this speedy recipe requires less than an hour from start to finish. The turnips, beets, and yams take advantage of the stovetop, rather than the oven, for timesaving yet tender results. Hoping to scout out a good-for-you comfort dish? You've come to the right place. Advice

To Dishwasher or Not to Dishwasher?

I'm on the hunt for a new apartment here in San Francisco.

I'm on the hunt for a new apartment here in San Francisco. One of the things I've taken horribly for granted is my dishwasher. You'd be surprised how many places do not have one. Some even have "new, remodeled" kitchens, but no dishwasher! As you can imagine, I do a lot of cooking and plenty of entertaining, yet places with dishwashers are generally more expensive.

This is where I need your help readers: Do you have a dishwasher? Do you not have one? Is it really difficult always having to wash dishes? Or do you think it's worth it to pay a little extra and get a dishwasher? Please share your advice below!

Have you ever played Apples to Apples?

Have you ever played Apples to Apples? The wildly entertaining game that's all about words and comparisons? It's my new favorite party game — I love it so much that I'm joining forces with FabSugar to host an Apples to Apples party! Fab's inviting equal amounts of boys and girls to her house, and I'm in charge of the food and drinks. Each item on the menu includes (no surprises here) apples! Since the party is on a Thursday evening, I'll keep things simple by serving two dishes that can be made in advance. Guests can help themselves to sausage, fennel, and apple skewers or fill a mug with steaming sweet potato, chipotle, and apple soup.

These apple recipes would be fun at any Winter-themed dinner so get them now after the break.
