Happy Hour: Châtelaine

The other day I found myself at my parents' house and I was thirsty for a cocktail. However, it had to be a simple recipe that didn't require fussy syrups or fresh citrus. There wasn't time to run to the store or make anything complex, so I grabbed Food & Wine Cocktails '09 and started browsing.

I knew my parents had St. Germain, the deliciously aromatic elderflower liqueur, and I settled on this uncomplicated recipe with a complex-sounding name. Like sangria, it perfectly combines wine with spirit.

Don't be intimidated by the gin; I served it to three non-gin drinkers and they loved it! The sweetness of the St. Germain and the crispness of the white wine balance it out. What I love most about this refreshing concoction is that it's not hard to batch; one could easily make a pitcher. It's also a great way to use pomegranate juice. Interested in the recipe? Lamb Chops With Mint Salsa Verde

Fast and Easy Recipe for Lamb Chops With Mint Salsa Verde 2010-04-02 15:26:36

Ingredients

4 1"-thick lamb loin chops (about 1 lb), or frenched lamb rib chops
2 tbsp. plus 3⁄4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 cups loosely packed fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
1⁄2 cup flat-leaf parsley leaves, finely chopped
2 tbsp. finely chopped fresh tarragon leaves
1 tbsp. salt-packed capers, soaked, rinsed, drained, and finely chopped
1⁄4 tsp. crushed red chile flakes
6 oil-packed anchovy filets, drained and finely chopped
1 clove garlic, finely chopped

Directions

  1. Put lamb into a small baking dish, rub with 2 tbsp. oil, and season with salt and pepper; set aside to let rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, make the salsa verde: Combine mint, parsley, tarragon, capers, chile flakes, anchovies, and garlic in a medium bowl. Slowly drizzle in remaining oil while stirring with a fork to make the salsa verde; set aside.
  3. Build a medium-hot fire in a charcoal grill or set gas grill to medium-high heat. (Alternatively, heat a cast-iron grill pan over medium-high heat.) Add loin chops and cook, flipping once, until browned and crusty and cooked to desired temperature, 6–8 minutes for medium rare if using loin chops (rib chops will take only 4 minutes or so to reach medium rare). Transfer lamb to a platter. Stir sauce and drizzle over chops, reserving some of the sauce to serve on the side.

Serves 2.

I have read non-stop in all of the cooking magazines about beer and food pairings. So last night my husband and I finally attended our first beer and food pairing at Fish in Sausalito. Fish is a great casual joint all about sustainable fishing, local products and, of course, really good food too! We had their prix fixe with four different courses and five different beers! Each course was delicious and well paired with each beer.

Have you eaten an awesome meal or taken some wonderful food photos? Be sure to post them to Savory Sights! It is easy upload your photos and a description of the experience, and it could be featured on YumSugar! If you are new to the YumSugar Community, here's a detailed guide to posting to groups.

Are Your Underarms Ready?

With summer around the corner, women everywhere are starting to think about their warm-weather wardrobe – which inevitably includes sleeveless fashions.

With summer around the corner, women everywhere are starting to think about their warm-weather wardrobe – which inevitably includes sleeveless fashions. But tank tops, halters, and bathing suits mean exposed underarms and more frequent underarm shaving, which can result in irritation and skin dryness.

To help you prepare your underarms for the big reveal this summer, Dove® Deodorant partnered with dermatologist Dr. Debra Luftman to develop an at-home spa treatment called the PitiCure™. A Piti-what you ask? A PitiCure is to your underarms as a pedicure is to your feet! This simple three-step process cleanses and helps care for delicate underarm skin. Dr. Luftman explains the step-by-step process in today’s “Have You Tried It?” Check it out!

Have You Attended a Passover Seder?

Despite my lifelong affinity for Jewish culture and food, I'm sad to say that I have never attended a Passover Seder.

Despite my lifelong affinity for Jewish culture and food, I'm sad to say that I have never attended a Passover Seder. After all, even the Obamas attended one this year! Assuming that one day I'll be the recipient of an invite, I look forward to eating from the ke'ara, or Passover Seder plate. I already know what most of the items symbolize! How about you?
