Love It or Hate It

Good Eats: Love It or Hate It?

While watching his live demo at the New York City Wine and Food Festival last weekend, I realized how much I enjoy Alton Brown.

While watching his live demo at the New York City Wine and Food Festival last weekend, I realized how much I enjoy Alton Brown.

It's funny because I am not a fan of his scientific, slightly wacky show, Good Eats. If it's on the Food Network, I change the channel.

This year Good Eats is celebrating its 10th anniversary, so there are plenty of people out there who must love watching it. Are you one of them?

Alton Brown's in It For Three More Years

Alton Brown fans rejoice, he and the Food Network have just announced a new three-year deal.

Alton Brown fans rejoice, he and the Food Network have just announced a new three-year deal. This means there will be new seasons of Good Eats (yay!) and he will continue to host Iron Chef America. When asked about the deal, Alton had this to say:

Food Network is my home and I am staying home. I'm looking forward to producing more and varied shows with the network and am especially excited about Feasting on Waves, which will bring a whole new perspective to food.

That's right, AB will be back this Summer with a new version of his popular summer travel show Feasting on Asphalt, only this time he'll be in the Caribbean and will be Feasting on Waves. He'll be on the deck of a boat, diving, fishing, and doing whatever it takes to find good eats. They're paying him to do this? No wonder he's sticking around for three more years!

2007's Favorite Cooking Show Is...

For those of you who wished Alton Brown was declared our favorite male-celebrity chef of 2007, you should take some consolation in the fact that his show Good Eats was voted our favorite cooking show of 2007.

For those of you who wished Alton Brown was declared our favorite male-celebrity chef of 2007, you should take some consolation in the fact that his show Good Eats was voted our favorite cooking show of 2007. AB's show was neck-and-neck with Giada's Everyday Italian, but it's Alton special blend of wacky props and food science that makes Good Eats a great show to watch. Every episode is packed with several compelling recipes — if not for the taste, then for the science — and there's no way you could walk away without having learned anything. Whether it's the art of a perfect pork chop or the science behind a pinwheel cookie, Alton's got you covered.

What do you think? Do you agree, should Good Eats top our Best of 2007 list?

Also, if you haven't seen it — and why haven't you? — you're in luck. AB's currently working on editing new episodes for 2008. Plus, we've got a clip for you, just read more

Alton Brown Receives a Peabody Award

Quick, what do Stephen Colbert and my favorite Food Network star, Alton Brown, have in common?

Quick, what do Stephen Colbert and my favorite Food Network star, Alton Brown, have in common? Okay there's the whole from the south thing, but that's not what I'm looking for. The answer I'm looking for is the fact that they both have a Peabody Award! Colbert received his back when he was on The Daily Show, but Alton just received his honor. The 2007 Peabody Award winners, for excellence in radio and television broadcasting, were announced today and Alton Brown's Good Eats is the first Food Network show to receive the honor.

Awards went to "Good Eats," a deliriously inventive series for Food Network in which Alton Brown educates viewers about food, science, history and culture.

I think this is awesome. I've been a big fan of Alton ever since I first saw Good Eats back in 2000. He's geeky and funny, and I love his goofy props. It's like high school science, only more fantastic and all about food and therefore 100x more awesome.

Congrats to AB and his Good Eats team! The awards, which will be MC'd by Bob Costas, will be presented June 4 at a luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
