A recent poll shows Tampa is the most caffeinated city in the United States. In the study, the Florida city is closely followed by Seattle, birthplace of the coffeehouse culture and coffee titan Starbucks, with Chicago placing third. Rounding out the top five are the top two most populated US cities, New York and Los Angeles. The poll looked at all caffeine consumption, including coffee, tea, energy drinks, chocolate, soda, pain relievers, and caffeine pills. The firm that conducted the study, Prince Market Research, also generated a list of the least caffeinated cities in America. The sleepiest city turned out to be the California twin cities area of Riverside/San Bernardino, followed by Atlanta, San Diego, Minneapolis/St. Paul, and Dallas. Overall, 49 percent of all people surveyed said they drink caffeinated coffee on a daily basis. A surprising 20 percent admitted to drinking cola every day, tied with tea.
I'm taken aback to hear this, since everybody — from friends to people I pass on the street — seems to be more tired and less wired these days. What do you think of these numbers?
In Kansas City, some raccoon fur trappers are making a second killing off
raccoon meat. One coon, which feeds four to five, goes for anywhere between $3 and $7. And while the game isn't USDA inspected, some scientists are saying it's one of the healthiest meats to eat.
Have you ever eaten raccoon meat? Do you think the practice of eating raccoons should be considered any differently from eating other game, like squab or elk?

Oxymoronic as it may sound, fast food chains have begun marketing their latest products as nutritious, wholesome meals. One of the best examples of this movement is Pizza Hut's new health-oriented pie, the Natural.
The Natural pizza ($9.99 for a medium with one topping) has sauce "made from vine-ripened tomatoes," all-natural toppings, and a multigrain crust that has been endorsed by the Whole Grains Council. Find out what I thought of its taste — and how healthy it really is — when you read more
Could peanut butter be the new milk? Following a salmonella outbreak thought to be caused by tainted peanut butter, Kellogg's announced late yesterday that it has asked stores to halt sales of all Austin and Keebler peanut butter sandwiches. While the company says it hasn't received any complaints or found any issues related to the products, Kellogg's has voluntarily ceased the sale of these products as a precautionary measure, after its supplier, Peanut Corp. of America, issued a recall for its peanut butter, due to possible contamination.
Austin and Keebler are pulling toasted peanut butter sandwich crackers, peanut butter and jelly sandwich crackers, cheese and peanut butter sandwich crackers, and peanut butter-chocolate sandwich crackers from store shelves across the country.
Although it's named after a city in Massachusetts, Cohasset Punch is a classic concoction native to Chicago. Since the menu of my Inauguration kickoff party is Chicago themed, in honor of Barack Obama's old home, the signature drink should be a cocktail with origins in the Windy City. A favorite since before World War I, Cohasset Punch is a mixture of rum, Grand Marnier, and canned peach syrup. Along with the punch, offer guests a small selection of beer, wine, and sodas. To learn how to make the Cohasset cocktail, read more
