Spike Mendelsohn showed off some seriously sharp butchering skills on this week's episode of Top Chef. But in the end, he failed to make the cut for the final four.
He's certainly been one of the more colorful chefs this season, so I was excited to chat with Spike yesterday about the whole frozen scallops incident, the recent rumors about his job, and his affinity for fedoras. Oh, and in case you're curious, the 27-year-old chef is currently single. For all the juicy details on Spike, read more
It may not lend itself to a clever rhyme like ice cream, but I'd still be willing to scream pretty loudly for gelato. May is actually National Gelato Month, but you can scoop up this dense, rich Italian ice cream all Summer long. It's fairly simple to make at home, or you can use store bought gelato to create your own desserts. For some ideas on how to enjoy gelato, just click "start."
It's time for me to invest in some new coasters. The Lipstick Jungle cardboard coasters — from the book reading I went to years ago! — that I currently own are warped and bending. Can you help me find new, fabulous coasters? Look for coasters that are functional yet super stylish. My studio apartment is decorated in browns, reds, pinks, golds, and purples so search for coasters that will match. Save the coasters in the Yum Market on TeamSugar with the keyword tag, New Coasters. I can't wait to see your discoveries!

We've all been in crazy situations, and I want to know how you handle entertaining fiascoes and bad restaurant behavior. I'll present a situation and you tell me what you would do. Here's this week's scenario:
You're at a nice, chic restaurant where your table is next to an unlit fireplace. Instead of setting your purse and shawl on the ground, you place them on a shelf next to the fireplace. You have a lovely dinner with good food and great company. After paying the bill, you reach for your purse, and your shawl falls into a crack. You quickly pick it up but realize it's much heavier. Something is stuck to your shawl. Upon closer examination, you realize it's a sticky mouse trap with a furry dead mouse attached! What would you do?

My Moroccan dinner would not be complete without sweet mint tea. This hot concoction is a common commodity on the streets of the North African country. Although alcohol is not traditionally consumed in Islamic culture, at my party I'll offer guests an alcoholic variation of the tea in the form of a green-tea cocktail. Water — both sparkling and still — local beers, and a couple bottles of wine will round out the drink menu.
