Reader Recipe: Cuckoohead Cookies

In honor of National Cookie Month, Sugar staffer Nancita decided to resurrect a recipe she "invented" at age 5.

In honor of National Cookie Month, Sugar staffer Nancita decided to resurrect a recipe she "invented" at age 5. Since I know you guys like snickerdoodles, I thought you would appreciate this story.

Writes Nancita:

I invented this recipe when I was five, after first encountering a Snickerdoodles cookie. I thought it was a funny name and wanted to come up with my own cookie with a silly name. I called them cuckooheads and suggested the main ingredients: almonds, raisins, and caramels; my mom put together the recipe.

While it's definitely an unlikely set of ingredients — a bit cuckoo, if you will — Nancita assures me that these cookies are chock full of gooey goodness. To get the recipe, read more

Drink or Eat Your Espresso Today

I'm not much of a coffee drinker, so I prefer to consume my espresso inside of baked goods.

I'm not much of a coffee drinker, so I prefer to consume my espresso inside of baked goods. However, many of you are indeed coffee drinkers, so for today's featured cookie, I've found an espresso-filled baked good that also pairs well with coffee. These traditional-style biscotti are flavored with instant espresso and then smothered in chocolate. And of course, they're perfect for dunking. If that doesn't sound good, then I don't know what does! For the recipe, read more

Has anybody gotten their hands on this new 3-D Halloween Cookie Cutter Set ($11.99) from Williams-Sonoma?

Has anybody gotten their hands on this new 3-D Halloween Cookie Cutter Set ($11.99) from Williams-Sonoma? Bringing a new dimension to holiday baking, the Halloween-shaped cookie cutters allow home cooks to make cookies that can be assembled into standing, 3-D sculptures. I'm not exactly sure how they work, but it seems like a fun project for kids. The set includes a pumpkin, a cat, a haunted house, and a witch.

The 3-D pumpkin cookies would be excellent homemade place cards for a Thanksgiving dinner. I hope the Christmas set contains a gingerbread house-shaped cutter. Imagine the cute centerpieces you could make!

The end result ended up being more like a muffin than a cookie; however it was perfect right after dinner, as well as first thing in the morning.
