Rachael Ray: What Did She Say?

If you've ever watched 30 Minute Meals or her daytime television show, you'll know that celebrity chef Rachael Ray, who coined the terms Yum-O and EVOO, sometimes says the silliest things.

If you've ever watched 30 Minute Meals or her daytime television show, you'll know that celebrity chef Rachael Ray, who coined the terms Yum-O and EVOO, sometimes says the silliest things. Her demo at the Food Network New York City Wine and Food Festival was no different. While she walked the jam-packed audience through her bacon, leek, and tomato halibut and roasted tomato burger recipes, she managed to spit out some of her signature one-liners. I thought it would be fun to turn them into a quiz. I'll list a supposed quote, and you tell me if she said it at her demo or not. Ready, go!

On Bourbon, Bacon, and Butter: Alton Brown Gets Funny

The first time I went to an Alton Brown demo, I was a little disappointed the scientific chef focused on cooking for kids.

The first time I went to an Alton Brown demo, I was a little disappointed the scientific chef focused on cooking for kids. Luckily, at this year's Food Network New York City Wine and Food Festival, Brown was more rated R than PG. Although it was 11 a.m., he got things started by teaching the crowd how to make mint juleps.

The theme of his demo was quintessential Southern cuisine with the defining flavor of the South being bourbon. While cooking bacon bourbon ice cream and bananas foster, he joked about the differences between Yankees and Southerners in the kitchen and had some pretty hysterical and memorable quotes. To see what he had to say about everything from parenting to Martha Stewart, read on.

The Best Eats of the Tasting Tent

A highlight of any food festival, including this past weekend's New York City Wine and Food Festival hosted by the Food Network, is the tasting tent.
Pictures From the 2010 New York City Wine and Food Festival Tasting Tent

A highlight of any food festival, including this past weekend's New York City Wine and Food Festival hosted by the Food Network, is the tasting tent. Located on a pier overlooking the river, the long-covered tent was filled with countless things to taste: wine, spirits, chocolate, hot dogs, sandwiches, scallops, and more. After spending several hours in the tent, I don't know what I didn't taste. To get a glimpse of the experience, I've rounded up my favorite bites.

Ground Meat Galore at Meatball Madness!

Besides revealing a little of her personal life at a demonstration, Giada De Laurentiis also hosted one of the kickoff parties to the Food Network's New York City Wine and Food Festival.

Besides revealing a little of her personal life at a demonstration, Giada De Laurentiis also hosted one of the kickoff parties to the Food Network's New York City Wine and Food Festival. On Thursday night she was taking pictures and passing out meatballs at Meatball Madness, a walk-around competition that featured over 30 of New York's Italian restaurants and chefs. While I thoroughly enjoyed Nate Appleman's (of Pulino's Bar and Pizzeria) pepperoni meatball, my favorite was from Missy Robbins of A Voce. Her meatball was stuffed with a wonderfully creamy herb and ricotta mixture. The top prize of the people's choice award, however, went to Mia Dona's Donatella Arpaia. Her tasty meatball was served slider-style on potato focaccia with cacciocavallo cheese. It was spicy and pretty darn delicious!

5 Things You May Not Know About Giada De Laurentiis

Over the weekend I attended the Food Network's New York City Wine and Food Festival.

Over the weekend I attended the Food Network's New York City Wine and Food Festival. There were tastings, book signings, parties, and chef's demonstrations. One of my favorite demos was hosted by the lovely Giada De Laurentiis. The petite and gorgeous chef, who made smashed potatoes, pork chops agrodolce, and chocolate cookies, invited audience members to the stage and candidly answered plenty of questions. You may know that she's the mother of 2-year-old Jade and that she pronounces words like mozzarella with a distinct Italian accent, but during the demo I learned a couple of things I never knew about Giada. Find out what they are after the break!
