For Maiyet, which employs artisans all over the world, the process of creating a garment is as beautiful and as interesting as the end result.
All those behind-the-scenes looks at couture ateliers, photo shoots, and runway shows aren't for naught: Erin Heatherton says they can be prime training ground for people who want to work in the industry.
"My advice to young people who want to get into the fashion industry is definitely to take advantage of all the media that's available now," she says in a video chronicling her shoot for XOXO's Spring 2013 campaign. "You can really get a closer look at the fashion industry than you ever could these days with media outlets, videos online. And it's a great way to kind of prep yourself for the fashion world."

While some celebs ushered in award season at the Critics' Choice Awards, a smaller crowd got a head start on Fashion Week with Vogue's private dinner and a first look at Alberta Ferretti's limited-edition collection. As you'd expect from an event where Vogue was playing host, the LA presentation was decked out with roses — not to mention, a red carpet on the catwalk — while both Hollywood favorites and fashion insiders took the front row. We spotted Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, and Alison Brie all looking lovely in their respective Ferretti confections while sharing a laugh before the show. Meanwhile, funny lady Chelsea Handler glammed up in a sharp suit and posed alongside a gorgeous (and supersmiley!) Selena Gomez. Hickory was the winner of the Hound Group, with Pekingese pup GCH Palacegarden Malachy topping the Toys, Chinese Shar-Pei GCH Vaje's Miss Jayne Hathaway as the Non-Sporting winner, GCH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins the Bearded Collie beating out the Herding competition, Black Cocker Spaniel GCH Casablanca's Thrilling Seduction claiming first in the Sporting Group, GCH Aviators Luck Be A Lady the Portuguese Water Dog crowned Working champ, and Smooth Fox Terrier GCH Slyfox Sneak's A Peek named Terrier top dog.

The New York-based designer is expanding her ready-to-wear offering this fall with an ambitious workwear lineup featuring jeans, skirts, shirts, jackets, and corduroys in multiple fits (super skinny, straight leg, legging, trouser) and a variety of interesting washes. In addition to your everyday denim finds, Burch has created a custom metallic paint wash and a colorful dip-dyed print (seen here on the runway during the Tory Burch fall presentation).
As part of the new business push, Tory Burch and crew photographed models Lisa Winkler and Danielle Z yesterday in the Meatpacking District's High Line park for the denim category's advertising images.
