Four times a year, San Francisco's best bartenders gather at the Ferry Building for a fabulous event put on by CUESA. Last Wednesday's Farmers Market Cocktail Night was a part of SF Cocktail Week and featured early Fall ingredients. Since this party is too good to miss, I was on hand at the sold-out shindig. Here's a look at the food and drink.
Here's a guaranteed recipe for a successful event: round up all of the city's top bartenders and put them in a magnificent outdoor space with sweeping views of the Bay as a backdrop on one side, and all of San Francisco's downtown on the other. Add Spring's best market ingredients, from rhubarb to strawberries and Spring peas. What do you get? CUESA's Farmers Market Cocktail Night: a smashing party that's sold out every year. Last night, like the many years before it, was no exception, with incredible flavor combinations that I'm still dreaming about. See the best takes when you keep reading.
Cocktail week has come and gone here in San Francisco, and while I enjoyed a class on house-made bar ingredients, the star of the celebration was the cocktail — or, I should say, cocktails! San Francisco's bartending scene is incredibly unique, not just because there is an emphasis on fresh, in-season products, homemade ingredients, and wild creativity, but because of the camaraderie. The bartenders don't keep their recipes and ideas a secret, they share them with each other, making for an atmosphere that is educational, thriving, and fabulous. Here is a look at some of the concoctions that were made for the event.
