DIY: Charming Cupcake Stand

If you're not a cake stand collector, you may fret before a fiesta wondering where you're going to place your pastries for guests.

If you're not a cake stand collector, you may fret before a fiesta wondering where you're going to place your pastries for guests. Instead of shelling out a good dose of green on a brand-new one unloaded straight from the assembly line, whip up your own unique one with a couple of plates, a glass, and glue. It's easier and quicker to craft than the cupcakes themselves!

Vintage

Etsy Find: Dessert Please Cake Plate

You may not know this but Etsy, the online marketplace for handmade goods, also sells vintage items.

You may not know this but Etsy, the online marketplace for handmade goods, also sells vintage items. When they first introduced vintage, I whined a little, saddened that it would no longer be 100 percent handmade. But, when I come across vintage items like this Dessert Please Cake Plate ($65), everything is okay in the world. You'll be hard pressed to find anything like this milk-glass beauty elsewhere, and if you do find a mass-produced version, retailers like Anthropologie will charge you upwards of $150 for it. I'd normally say that the combination of the rose garland, butterflies perched on top, raised polka dots, and teardrop doily plate are a bit too much, but this cake plate has a sort of Victorian, old-world charm that beguiles me.

Off To Market Recap: Cake Plate

By now most of you know about my obsession with making cakes.

By now most of you know about my obsession with making cakes. I don't mean those cakes from a Betty Crocker box, I mean elaborate creations that have tons of steps and take hours to complete. An epic cake of these proportions deserves, and requires, beautiful presentation. Unfortunately I don't have a cake platter or a cake stand... imagine how sad my gorgeous cakes look on a boring old everyday dinner plate! That's why I asked you to head off to market in search of cool cake plates. Just in time too: it's YumSugar's birthday on Monday, my half birthday on Friday, and my sister's birthday in 2 weeks so looks like I have a lot of fabulous excuses to go all out making cakes. You guys found some pretty plates and saved them in the Yum Market with the tag Cake Plate. I totally appreciate all your searching. Here are my favorites:

For modern, sleek cakes with ganache frostings, I love this square cake plate that chellebaby found. It's totally contemporary and will make any chocolate-y creature that much more mouth-watering.

Off To Market: Cake Plate

I love making cakes especially for birthdays, parties, and special events.

I love making cakes especially for birthdays, parties, and special events. I'm not talking easy cakes from a Duncan Hines box, I'm talking about four layer cakes with multiple fillings, glazes, ganaches, frostings, and garnishes. I know when I've made a great cake when the final product takes the breath away from my guests, my mother says, WOW, and my father goes back for late night seconds and thirds. An epic cake of these proportions needs beautiful, mouth-watering presentation. Unfortunately I don't own a single cake platter or cake stand! This problem must be remedied by the time I'm in the mood to make my next cake. I can't be a well respected hostess/cook/food blogger without at least two cool cake plates. It's off to market time! Please scour the web for the most glamorous cake plates/stands/platters around and save them in the Yum Market on TeamSugar. Tag your platters with the keywords, Cake Plate. I am looking forward to seeing what you discover!
