Have You Ever Left Furniture Out on the Street?

In San Francisco, it's common to see furniture abandoned on the street.

In San Francisco, it's common to see furniture abandoned on the street. Sometimes a Craigslist ad announces the furniture's presence, and sometimes it just randomly appears. While it's a good way to find free furniture, often this abandoned furniture poses a problem for garbage removal services. Plus, it's just an eyesore.

Geek Tip: Find Free Kindle Content Fast

Just in time to fill my favorite new gadget this tip couldn't have come at a better time.

Just in time to fill my favorite new gadget this tip couldn't have come at a better time. With hundreds of thousands of book titles, blogs, newspapers, and magazines available for download in Amazon's Kindle Store it's daunting to try and find your way to free content — especially when you're browsing the store directly from your device.

I've posted an easy way to find free content on Amazon but just found an equally easy way to search for free content directly from your Kindle. Simply type "-domain" (without the quotations) into the search box, and the results returned include all free book, blog, newspaper and magazine content. There are nearly 64,000 pages of free books alone, including literary fiction, biographies, humor titles, and more.

Cool Idea: Blu Dot Chairs Go Curbside

Live in New York?

Live in New York? Want to grab a Blu Dot chair for free? You're in luck, because today and tomorrow, Blu Dot's dropping 25 Real Good Chairs around New York City. Some of the chairs have been enabled with GPS, so you can trace the chairs' progress on Blu Dot's site. You can also follow each chair's progress on Blu Dot's Twitter feed.

Blu Dot explains the inspiration for this project thusly:

When we opened our SoHo store in 2008, we became surrounded by the resourceful culture of "curb-mining": the act of finding furniture and art on the street. Now that a year has passed, our friends at mono approached us with a way to conduct a curb-mining experiment of our own: What would happen if we left a bunch of Real Good Chairs all over New York, free for the take? Who will grab them? Where will they go? How will they get there? What will their new homes look like?

Do you live in New York? Have you spotted any Blu Dot chairs today?

KFC Braves Another Grilled Chicken Giveaway

Now that KFC's finally named a winner in its search for the right grilled chicken spokesperson, the chain is ready for yet another Kentucky Grilled Chicken giveaway.

Now that KFC's finally named a winner in its search for the right grilled chicken spokesperson, the chain is ready for yet another Kentucky Grilled Chicken giveaway. Declaring next Monday, Oct. 26 "UNFry Day," KFC will be handing out one free piece of grilled chicken to customers at more than 5,000 restaurants across the US.

The fast food company's last grilled chicken giveaway, which was backed by none other than Oprah Winfrey, caused quite a stir when KFC, faced with overwhelming demand, was forced to issue an apology and staggered rainchecks to customers who were turned away.

Considering what happened during the last giveaway, I'm not sure I'm ready to show up for this one. Did you have a bad experience with the last promotion? Would you be willing give KFC another try?

There's no shortage of photo editing software programs or cool iPhone camera apps, but Photoshop is arguably one of the best around. The free (yes, free!) app lets you perform basic photo editing tasks: crop and rotate, adjust colors, add tint or switch to black and white, and add filters or effects like vignette blur and warm vintage. Creating an account on photoshop.com and store up to 2G of photos that you can access anytime straight from your phone.

You can download the Photoshop app from the App Store.

Free Fall Activity: Take In the Colors

When you're looking for something to do this Fall, just walk out the front door; you'll want to remember your keys, but the wallet can stay behind.

When you're looking for something to do this Fall, just walk out the front door; you'll want to remember your keys, but the wallet can stay behind. This time of year offers gorgeous foliage that's free to look at and fun to absorb. The changing colors are best taken in by gazing upward and picking up leaves that have already fallen, so walking is better than driving — plus, you don't have to use any gas.
