It may come as a surprise to some, but all kids don't love burgers. A large patty of ground beef sitting on a huge bun can be intimidating to tiny hands and small mouths. Yes, you can cut them into halves or quarters, but if you want to give tots the full burger experience, size them down to sliders! Cooking With My Kid's Rebecca Coleman did just that to entice her burger-phobe son to try the all-American dish. Using the smaller slider buns, and creating "meatballs" prior to grilling, she created a burger-lover almost overnight. For National Burger Month, the chef and blogger shared three of her favorite recipes with us, including the ultra-healthy Black Bean Quinoa version shown here. Best of all, her recipes include step-by-step photo instructions showing how her lil one helps her make them. Check them out!
Patty cake, patty cake! We're going ga ga over chef's different takes on the tot-favorite hamburger. The juicy patties may be considered junk food by some, but when made with fresh, natural ingredients, they can actually be a healthy part of a lil one's meal plan. I asked Annabel Karmel, the British children's chef and kiddie cookbook author, for some kid-friendly versions of healthier burgers, and she came back with some drool-worthy creations. Fire up the grill pan and check them out!
Serving up one patty of brain-building food on a bun! Put a piece of salmon on your lil one's plate, and watch how quickly he'll turn up his nose. Form it into a patty and serve it on a bun, and you just might have a new fish lover on your hands. As we make our way through National Burger Month, I turned to Jessica Seinfeld, the queen of purees, for her take on a healthy patty. Combining omega-3, fatty-acid-rich salmon with some sweet pureed carrots and hoisin sauce, the Do It Delicious chef and blogger created a burger that packs in the veggies along with the fish. Be prepared for finicky eaters to be won over instantly!
Fire up the grill – it's National Burger Month! This staple of the American diet becomes even more popular as Memorial Day approaches and families head outdoors for barbecues and family gatherings. Kids, in particular, love the idea of a handheld food that they can bite right into! We asked kiddie chef extraordinaire Catherine McCord, founder of Weelicious and mother of two, to share some of her mouthwatering, kid-friendly, burger recipes with us. Check out five that satisfy both grownups and tots alike!
If you've got a serious craving for a burger, there's more than one reason to satisfy it. Not only is it almost Memorial Day, but May is also National Hamburger Month! To honor the special month, I thought it'd be appropriate to test your knowledge of the oldest hamburger chain in America, White Castle.
