Hello and welcome to a new month! August brings a record number of food events that cover just about anything a foodie would want. Restaurant week? Check. Barbecue festival? Check. Largest free vegetarian food expo in the US? Check. Crawfish free-for-all? Check!

While I'm aching to attend the Maine Lobster Festival (it's going to happen one of these years!), I will most definitely hit up SF Chefs 2010, the Bay Area's premiere food and wine event.

Why, Miami, of course, for its Taste of the Nation dinner — or perhaps some mountaintop views with brews at the Bluegrass and Beer Festival in Keystone, CO. Party with the likes of Tom Colicchio in Atlantic City, or stay cool in Bayou City with Houston Restaurant Week.

Midway through Summer, the food and drink festivities just get better. Tomorrow marks the beginning of the seventh annual Tales of the Cocktail, a blowout of the nation's brightest bartenders that convenes in Crescent City. If beer is more your cup of choice, turn to the many brewfest goings on this week, taking place everywhere from Michigan to Oregon to the mountains of Colorado.
I've got a penchant for anything off the beaten path, and while I won't be able to make it this year, I've got Whiting, IN's, Pierogi Fest on my radar. What's on yours? Let us know in the comments below.

If you're a fan of the outdoors, consider the Park City Food & Wine Classic, which offers gourmet wine and food to go along with outdoor adventures like hiking, fishing, and horseback riding.

Fans of coastal beauty will find the trek to California's Central Coast Wine Classic well worth it. Or if artisan ales are more your thing, stop by the AleFest in Chicago, IL.

The pitmaster rules Independence Day, so you can't go wrong getting your fill of ribs, whether it's at Lake Placid's I Love BBQ Festival or Naperville's Ribfest in the outskirts of Chicago.

Tonight, we'll be at a World Cup cocktail championship featuring our favorite local bartenders. While we won't be at the National Cherry Festival, we're dreaming of the weather in Traverse City.

We'll be at the trade portion of Pinot Days this Friday, which is a mere sliver of what'll be offered at the public tasting: 220 Pinot Noirs from across the US.
