Summer blockbuster season continues with Star Trek Into Darkness, which is now out in theaters. Take a peek at all the pictures of stars Chris Pine, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, and Simon Pegg, and if you want to see the gang in motion, check out the trailer!
Star Trek Into Darkness: Thrills, Chills, and Heart
Star Trek Into Darkness is J.J. Abrams's second installment of the famous franchise he rebooted in 2009, and the success of the first film is both a blessing and a curse for the sequel. It has a lot to live up to, but this isn't Abrams's first time at the sci-fi rodeo; he delivers a fantastic film that's both a satisfying sequel and a standalone movie (no need to rewatch the first one or even really be familiar with the Star Trek universe). The awe-inspiring visuals are enough to make a fun Summer movie, but when you factor in the engaging story and strong performances of the cast, Star Trek Into Darkness adds up to a can't-miss movie.
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are back as Captain Kirk and Spock, along with the rest of the Starship Enterprise, like Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Scotty (Simon Pegg), and Sulu (John Cho), all showing off more of their fun chemistry, but with interesting developments. Scotty has a moral dilemma with Kirk, Spock and Uhura are having relationship issues, and Kirk and Spock are working on their friendship. It would be entertaining to watch another chapter of these characters together, but it's the arrival of Benedict Cumberbatch as the mysterious villain who targets Starfleet that escalates the excitement. What's Your Favorite Quote From Orange County?
It's a shame that Orange Country slid under the radar when it came out in 2002, because it's so brilliant and funny. Colin Hanks stars as a high school senior desperate to get into Standford and away from his insane family, including Catherine O'Hara and tighty-whitie-wearing Jack Black. The random dance sequence timed to Crazy Town's "Butterfly" is priceless, and these quotes are almost as great.
- "I didn't get in?!" — Shaun
- "Shaun! You are my same height. That is neat." — Don Durkett
- "Dude, I never went to college, and check me out. I'm kick-ass!" — Lance
Sofia Coppola's Greatest Lines on Growing Up Girl
Happy birthday, Sofia Coppola! The director, who turns 42 today, has been working on her latest film, The Bling Ring (out June 14). It stars Emma Watson as the latest — and, arguably, least likeable — Sofia Coppola heroine. And the group is an elite one, as Sofia has only directed five full-length feature films: The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, Somewhere, and now, The Bling Ring. Besides dreamy atmospheric shots and an emphasis on music, Sofia's films are known for exploring the expectations, complexities, and trials of growing up as a girl and what it means to be a woman. Click through for some of the most poignant lines from Sofia-directed films on female adolescence, motherhood, and everything in between.
