This week when I was browsing the Yum Market, I came across a lot of funny little things that made me laugh. It seems kitsch, that fine line between artsy and tacky, has found a suitable place in the kitchen. Kitchen kitsch comes in many different forms and flavors: ghost salt and pepper shakers, pig snout shaped salt holders, or egghead measuring cups to name a few. This bee shaped honey jar, found by laura1867 is a perfect example of a kitchen tool that is chic, weird, and cool all at the same time. If you want to add some humor to your kitchen, one or two pieces are fabulously fun, but an entire kitchen will look garish and gaudy. One of my favorite things about the Yum Market is checking out all these great whimsical items that make me feel like a kid. En masse, they're a bit "too much," but can you imagine just one of these poking out in a grown up house? Cute little mushroom salt and pepper shakers would look adorable on a formal table. And tea time with butterflies? Oh my! What about whipping up a regal cake with a little ladybug spatula to keep you company? Salt and pepper shakers are great everyday tools that can be used to add style and personality to your kitchen. Sure you can get them in plain old clear glass but why would you want to when they come in so many fun and fabulous colors, shapes, and styles? For example, both casie82 and I ask, how cute are these salt and pepper shakers? I love how they are little honey bears and think I may have to get them for my parent's mountain vacation house.
