5 Indulgent Fast-Food Frozen Treats Under 300 Calories

The frozen yogurt trend has given us so many more options than calorie-rich ice cream, but sometimes you get the kind of craving that only a cheap fast-food frozen dessert can fix.

The frozen yogurt trend has given us so many more options than calorie-rich ice cream, but sometimes you get the kind of craving that only a cheap fast-food frozen dessert can fix. Calorie-wise, a soft-serve cone is usually the best option (a reduced fat vanilla ice cream cone at McDonald's, for example, is 150 calories and 3.5 grams of fat).

If you're looking for something more indulgent, however, there are a few options that'll satisfy any bored sweet tooth. And no, they're not 800-calorie shakes — check out five fast-food frozen treats that are under 300 calories after the break!

McDonald's Eyes Drink Market Further With Frozen Blends

First came the fast food breakfast wars.

First came the fast food breakfast wars. Now, it seems, the name of the game is refreshments. Every fast food joint wants a slice of the beverage pie, and number one chain McDonald's is leading the way.

Next month, the corporation will finally debut smoothies in Strawberry Banana and Wild Berry, the result of a year's worth of testing. What's more, the quick-service behemoth is now experimenting with frozen juice blends, slushies comparable to those famously served at rival Sonic. Test markets for flavors like strawberry lemonade currently include Michigan and Austin.

McDonald's has found surprising success with the introduction of premium roast coffee, sweet tea, and McCafé lattes and cappuccinos. It'll be interesting to see if the brand has good fortune with cold Summer refreshments. Are you into the concept of a McDonald's slushie?

Sonic Parodies "The Hills" With New Ads

This week, fast food chain Sonic Drive-In released the first of a new series of ads that mimic MTV's The Hills.

This week, fast food chain Sonic Drive-In released the first of a new series of ads that mimic MTV's The Hills. "The Stalls," as the advertising miniseries is called, begins by featuring the classic Sonic duo Pete and T.J. in a car at Sonic. After the two rave about banana pudding shakes, Pete announces he's met the girl of his dreams.

Lured in to the drama of the to-be-continued commercial series, I visited Sonic's official "The Stalls" website, where I previewed clips from the rest of the miniseries. Coming soon, I learned, "the drama heats up for T.J. and Pete over a couple of shakes and blasts." This new promotion airs weekly during episodes of The Hills, and actually ties in to other sponsorships between Sonic and MTV.

Check out the clip below. I think the series is hilarious and I can't wait to watch the rest of the mini episodes. Will you be trying to catch them as well?

Do You Need to Join the Ice Chompers Support Group?

The other day, while waiting for a delayed flight, I was clicking around the Internet and came across this article about ice selling like hot cakes.

The other day, while waiting for a delayed flight, I was clicking around the Internet and came across this article about ice selling like hot cakes. It seems that there's a small percentage of the population who just love, love, love chomping down on ice. In fact, it's so popular in places — particularly the South — that chains like Sonic Drive-In are actually selling 10 pound bags for $1.49.

However, it doesn't stop there, it seems that ice-machine makers are competing among themselves to come up with the best chewable ice. They even have drool-worthy names like Chewblet, Nugget Ice and Pearl Ice.

The reasons why folks chew ice are all over the place. Some doctors believe it's due to an iron deficiency, while others say it's due to a compulsion. Either way ice chompers aren't stopping, they even have a support website full of stories and even recipes on how to make the best ice.

So tell me, does all this ice talk sound good to you, or does the idea of chomping down on ice sound terrible? Have you ever bought a bag of ice just to eat it?

Have you ever sat down in your favorite chair and thought, I really wish I was sitting in a music-playing boom box pod? Me neither. Well at least not until lately. The Sonic Chair and Boombox is essentially one giant speaker with an iPod dock and the back of the seat houses a woofer.

You can sit inside the pod, listen to music, work on your laptop on the connected laptop tray and well, geek out. Gives new meaning to surround sound, doesn't it?
