Sunday BBQ: Sirloin Salad With Cilantro

Lately I've enjoyed vegetables as the focus of my meal in dishes such as Caprese and corn and cotija salad.

Lately I've enjoyed vegetables as the focus of my meal in dishes such as Caprese and corn and cotija salad. But I spotted sirloin steak on sale at the supermarket, so this weekend, it's going to be all about the beef.

Since my steak and pineapple salad was so well-received, I'm lighting up the coals for another salad tonight. Warm, sizzling sirloin sliced against the grain, served with smoky onion wedges and a cilantro-jalapeño vinaigrette. What's not to like? Get jazzed for dinner tonight

Sunday BBQ: Grilled Squid With Ginger, Celery, and Apple Slaw

After eating my way through the tasting tents at SF Chefs.

After eating my way through the tasting tents at SF Chefs. Food. Wine this weekend, I'm looking forward to sitting down to a dinner that's light and healthy, but still full of flavor. I'm going a bit off the beaten barbecue path: I'll throw some marinated calamari on the grill and serve it while it's still tender, warm, and freshly charred, with a bed of sweet-tart slaw.

If you've never cooked with squid before, don't be daunted. You can ask your fishmonger to clean it for you. Take a break from your standard meal tonight when you read more

Sunday BBQ: Tandoori-Style Chicken Burgers

As much as I love making turkey burgers and Italian sausage skewers, right now I'm craving something a little exotic, so tonight I'll be lighting up the grill for a portable version of a South Asian favorite: tandoori chicken.

As much as I love making turkey burgers and Italian sausage skewers, right now I'm craving something a little exotic, so tonight I'll be lighting up the grill for a portable version of a South Asian favorite: tandoori chicken.

In this contemporary rendition, I'm using the tandoor's trademark spices — such as cumin, cayenne, and ginger — but since I don't have a clay oven to call my own, I'm cooking the chicken on a barbecue, then serving it in a hefty pita pocket with tangy cumin-scented yogurt sauce. Sunday BBQ: Italian Sausage Kebabs

This weekend might be a sunny one, and since I don't have any major plans, I'm thinking of inviting some high school friends over for an ultra-chill dinner.

This weekend might be a sunny one, and since I don't have any major plans, I'm thinking of inviting some high school friends over for an ultra-chill dinner. It's so casual that I'm not exactly positive what I'll be serving yet, but one thing's for sure: I'll definitely be grilling some of these skewers. They're goofproof to make, portable, and contain the perfect ratio of crunchy, charred bell pepper to spiced, succulent pork sausage and sautéed spinach. They take a mere 15 minutes to cook through, so get your hands on the recipe after the jump

Sunday BBQ: Grilled Eggplant Parmigiana

Today, I'm planning a popular Italian-American supper, eggplant parmigiana.

Today, I'm planning a popular Italian-American supper, eggplant parmigiana. To prove that it can be just as enjoyable in warm weather as it is comforting in Winter, I'll be keeping my oven turned off and making use of the grill grates instead — grilling adds a smoky flavor to an already substantive vegetable. When preparing this dish, be sure to slice the eggplant right before using to prevent any discoloration. Enjoy an unconventional preparation of this classic after the break

Sunday BBQ: Grilled Skirt Steak With Chimichurri

When envisioning steak for dinner, cuts such as ribeye and tenderloin might be the first to come to mind.

When envisioning steak for dinner, cuts such as ribeye and tenderloin might be the first to come to mind. But don't forget skirt steak, a thin cut that's supreme when it comes to outdoor grilling.

This type of meat has more fat than a hanger steak or flank steak, meaning even the most mildly seasoned skirt steak will have out-of-this world flavor and juiciness.

Highlight the rich taste of the meat with this Mark Bittman recipe. The steak is served with an elemental chimichurri sauce of garlic, parsley, lemon juice, and olive oil. See it when you read more

Sunday BBQ: Turkey Burgers

One might expect to be tired of barbecue after a three-day grillfest of a holiday, but for some reason, I always wake up on July 5 even more enthusiastic about lighting up the grill.

One might expect to be tired of barbecue after a three-day grillfest of a holiday, but for some reason, I always wake up on July 5 even more enthusiastic about lighting up the grill. After all, it's only the beginning of July — so hamburger season has just begun!

The only difference? After eating an enormous array of all-American fare, I'm craving something a tad on the lighter side. That's why I'll shape burgers out of extra-lean turkey meat, and flavor them with scallions, Dijon mustard, and garlic. They'll be topped off with some whole-grain burger buns — and, of course, properly melted cheese. See the recipe after the jump

Sunday BBQ: Sicilian-Style Swordfish

After indulgence in Aspen and before any July 4th eating sprees, I've been attempting to enjoy healthier dishes that profess more delicate flavors.

After indulgence in Aspen and before any July 4th eating sprees, I've been attempting to enjoy healthier dishes that profess more delicate flavors. This weekend, I can't wait to make a simple, straightforward, yet elegant recipe from Italian culinary expert Marcella Hazan.

It's simply swordfish, drizzled with infused herb oil — no salty rubs or creamy sauces required. Serve it with lightly dressed greens, like watercress, and that other Sicilian favorite, caponata. Get the recipe when you read more

Sunday BBQ: Grilled Chicken With Blueberry-Basil Salsa

Although you may believe blueberries taste best eaten out of hand or in a scrumptious dessert, don't discount them in savory dishes until you've tried them.

Although you may believe blueberries taste best eaten out of hand or in a scrumptious dessert, don't discount them in savory dishes until you've tried them. If you've never used blueberries in a sauce before, start with a straightforward recipe.

This one pairs just-grilled chicken cutlets with a fresh salsa made of blended blueberries, cilantro, basil, and, of course, jalapeños for a sweet-hot kick. The end result? Chicken never tasted so summery. Surprise your palate (in a good way!) when you read more
