Lessons Learned From Threadless Photographers

Recently, Photoshelter founder Grover Sanschagrin visited the halls of Threadless (one of my favorite t-shirt companies ever) to see how and where its awesome images are captured for the online retail shop. Not only do we get an in-depth peek into a day in the life of photographers Sean Dorgan and Sean Donohue in the 10-minute video (which you can see after the break), but the tour offers up a few important lessons about photography as well. Take a look at the six tips I walked away with below!

  • Change up your locations — The guys at Threadless shoot indoors and out and aren't afraid to try new locations.
  • Try different lighting techniques — Whether they're in the studio or out in the alley behind the office, these photographers use light in dramatic ways. Don't hesitate to try new lighting techniques — lighting from behind, natural light, and different angles — to make the most of your shoot.
  • Take a lot of photos — With nearly 30 shirt photo shoots a week, these guys have each shot almost 1,000 shirts in total. Each shoot helps you learn what works and what doesn't, so keep shooting! Practice really does make perfect.

See the rest of the list, and watch the video for yourself, after the break.

Threadless Cake Competition

Every year my favorite geeky tee source, Threadless, holds a baking competition to see who can come up with the most amazing cakes based on one of its available tee shirts. This year both 3D and 2D cakes made it to the finals, with one super amazing robot cake taking home the grand prize. Check out all the winners and their placements (along with purchase info in case you want a tee for yourself) in this slideshow!

Do You Like Raisins In Your Cookies?

The folks at Threadless have come up with another fantastic shirt.

The folks at Threadless have come up with another fantastic shirt. This time it's a simple chocolate chip cookie with the words, "Stupid Raisins, Stay Out of my Cookies." Personally I have to agree. Although I like raisins, I rarely like them in my cookies. How about you? Do you like raisins in your cookies?

Nice and New: More Threadless Designs for Blik

I introduced you to Blik in my post about decal-icious wall decor, and now the brand has partnered with another cool company you should know: Threadless.

I introduced you to Blik in my post about decal-icious wall decor, and now the brand has partnered with another cool company you should know: Threadless. Threadless is an online t-shirt shop where artists submit designs, users vote on their favorites, and the winning art gets turned into t-shirts. Now, Blik has starting mining Threadless designs to turn into wall decals!

Each month, Blik chooses some of its favorite t-shirt designs and posts them on the Blik web site. As with Threadless, users can then vote on which art should be turned into wall decals. Nine of the winning designs have just gone up for sale, including Pirate Infested Waters ($60) and Summer Wind ($50) above.

In addition, Blik has also posted a batch of other Threadless designs that you can now vote on! To "blik" or "nix" the candidates, just visit the voting booth before the end of August, and your favorite just might get transformed into a decal design.

What Do You Know About Cupcakes?

The folks at Threadless recently launched a new shirt called Skip Dessert.

The folks at Threadless recently launched a new shirt called Skip Dessert. I personally love the concept, that little cupcake is working out (actually he's skipping, get it?!?) and those veggies are so cute! To celebrate this new shirt, I thought it would be fun to do a little cupcake quiz. Are you ready? Let's go!

Geek Apparel: New 'Original Gamester' Tee Shirt

I'm all for geek apparel so long as it doesn't make passersby think "they got that for free at an XBox competition."

I'm all for geek apparel so long as it doesn't make passersby think "they got that for free at an XBox competition." The new Orginal Gamester design from Threadless makes my official geek chic tee shirt list because it is No. 1, extremely "punny," No. 2, has a vintage flare and No. 3, works well for both male and female geeks. I adore the shirt's "don't hate the player" slogan, but love its $17 price tag even more. You just can't hate on that.

Threadless + Cakes = Awesome Contest Idea

In case you don't recall, I heart threadless tees.

In case you don't recall, I heart threadless tees. They're a great purveyor of "uniforms" for Jimmy - he works at a start-up so pretty much awesome tee-shirt & jeans is the standard dress code - and so I always like to check out what's fresh and new. Whenever I end up at the Threadless website I spend way too long checking everything out and well you know, I don't think I'm the only one. You see, the folks over at Loves Threadless love the tees so much that they have started a contest. And it's not just any contest, it's actually a pretty awesome baking contest. All you have to do is find a design you like and then bake/decorate a cake inspired by it. The winners will get a bunch of Threadless gear. Go crazy, but get crackin! You've got until April 27th to get your entries in.

Fast Food Nation Hearts Threadless T-Shirts (& So Do I)

Alright, so clothing is a bit more FabSugar than YumSugar, however something tells me Fab might not be so quick to endorse a shirt with a hamburger on it.

Alright, so clothing is a bit more FabSugar than YumSugar, however something tells me Fab might not be so quick to endorse a shirt with a hamburger on it. And me, well um, hello! it is a hamburger and it's anthropomorphic (fancy way of saying it has a cute face), so of course I'm going to love it. The folks over at Threadless ran a competition in conjunction with the movie version of Fast Food Nation and this little cutey is one of the two winning designs.

Out of 222 entries, the folks at Threadless chose Inside You by Matt Palmer and Fast Food Meal by Diogo Soares. You can purchase them now, $15 guys tee and $17 girly tee, but you'll want to act fast - like all Threadless shirts, they're printed in limited quantity.
