Summer is just around the corner and I'm excited for everything the warm weather has to offer. From picnics and barbecues to strawberries and hamburgers, this is my favorite time of year! And with Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day, and Memorial Day, there are a lot of parties to look forward to. Wondering what items we're totally obsessing over this month? Here they are, our must haves for May.
This year, instead of picking up a standard box of chocolate, grab a chocolate bar. With a box of chocolates, there's always the inevitable ones you don't like, but if you get a bar, you can select your favorite flavor and enjoy the whole thing! It's also incredibly romantic tearing off a chunk of chocolate while sipping a glass of red wine. We are always sent a bunch of chocolate, but I handpicked these 10 bars to share with you.
With its festive parties and unlimited opportunities to bake and cook, December is one of my favorite months. Here, I've rounded up my must haves for the holidays. Enjoy!
There's no doubt about it, I really dig on bacon. I also really enjoy chocolate. Recently I had the opportunity to try Vosges Mo's Bacon Bar, which is a deep milk chocolate bar with tiny crumbles of applewood smoked bacon and Alder wood smoked salt. As a bar, it was interesting, I wasn't sure I needed to have it again — believe it or not, bacon is not my favorite flavor, it's up there, but it's not my favorite — but I definitely thought it was intriguing and worth trying. The folks that got to taste it were split in half, some thought it was "just wrong," while others thought it was heavenly.
Not happy with just a chocolate-bacon bar, the folks at Vosges have recently released the Flying Chocolate Pig ($12). The pig-shaped chocolate confection — which was originally created for their friend's wedding — is filled with applewood smoked bacon, Alder wood smoked salt and lots of deep milk chocolate. It would make a great gift for any bacon or chocolate lover in your life.
One of the world's most original chocolatiers is Vosges Haut-Chocolat, known for their exotic truffles and unusual treats such as bacon chocolate bars. And now they've created a luxurious gift to appeal to the fragrance fiend in all of us.
Chocolate and the Nose: The Sensory Collection is the ultimate Valentine's Day gift for anyone who has a sweet tooth and a love of scents. It's a box filled with 40 chocolate bars from around the world, plus—and here's where the beauty bit comes in—42 fragrance aromas with the essences of tobacco, earth, leather, orange blossom, burnt sugar and other notes. The idea is that in experiencing the different scents, you'll become a better food taster. Additionally, I think it would be a wonderful way to train your nose to discern various parts of a complex fragrance.
The only hitch? This gorgeous kit costs a hefty $375—far out of my price range. But if, say, your valentine just won the lottery, it couldn't hurt to drop a few hints.
I really enjoy Vosges Chocolates (at least the two exotic candy bars I've tried have been delicious) and really need to hunt down some of their (new?) Red Fire Tortilla Chips. I read about them yesterday and have been drooling ever since. They're organic corn tortilla chips, covered in chocolate and topped with ancho & chipotle chiles.
Um, chocolate covered tortilla chips with a hint of chile?? Sign me up! A 6oz can is available at Vosges for $20.
Anyone tried these? How do they taste?
Here is the first installment in my Be Mine series which will highlight my Valentine's Day favorites. Jumping into the good stuff: sexual chocolate. I am more of a dark chocolate lover; I have come to appreciate the rich, bitter taste of the dark stuff. Interestingly, it appears that Jessica Biel likes all sorts of chocolate. Here are my picks that are either simply yummy or simply pretty. None of these are your run-of-the-mill chocolate options - they are FAB! Enjoy!
