Movie Preview: August Starring Josh Hartnett (and David Bowie!)

Remember in the '90s when the World Wide Web was tied to really lofty ideals?

Remember in the '90s when the World Wide Web was tied to really lofty ideals? This movie does. Josh Hartnett plays a dot-com entrepreneur who, in one scene from the trailer of August insists that this new phenomenon will increase freedom and choice. Kind of amazing to hear that stuff nowadays, huh?

As we all know, a lot of people put a lot of money into this idea and then the bubble burst. This seems to be what the film is mostly concerned with, though it's kinda hard to figure out from this trailer what the real focus will be. Is it a fast-paced look at the '90s dot-com boom and bust? Or is all that just the context in which we get to know Hartnett's character and watch him grow as a person? Or both?

I guess we'll have to wait and see. One thing I do know is that David Bowie plays an "investor" and he is awesome. The movie opens July 11th and to check it out for yourself, read more

August: The Movie That Makes Being a Nerd Look Glam

If I was pitched a movie about the dot-com bubble bursting and the rise and fall of a start-up, I'd be Fandango-ing already — but then, again, I was the girl who loved Pirates of Silicon Valley.

If I was pitched a movie about the dot-com bubble bursting and the rise and fall of a start-up, I'd be Fandango-ing already — but then, again, I was the girl who loved Pirates of Silicon Valley. Hollywood execs know that nongeeks need to be drawn to see their movies, too, so they add sex and flash — which they did here with the upcoming film August. And it works!

Josh Hartnett is the CEO of fictional start-up Landshark, which appears to hit the big time in the early 2000s, and his swagger is not Hollywood crafted, rather, he seems like he did his research on Valleywag to get into character. I'll be first in line!

Fit For August: Must Haves

The month of August is just plain hot.

The month of August is just plain hot. There is no way around it, but there are plenty of ways to stay cool. Here are a variety of things to help you enjoy your final days of summer in style without getting all heated up.

Staying hydrated is key in this humid month. Since water is sometimes not enough for that task, this Swigz Dual Chamber Water Bottle by Golds Gym is a great hydrating option. Put water in half and your favorite sports drink in the other and you are good to go.

For the beach I have just found these super cute hipster bottoms and tank top from Girls4Sport. Not only are theses shorts hip, they also have a drawstring so you won't end up performing a surprise peep show when body surfing. The tank has a built in shelf bra for modest support and modesty and no straps to fall down and interfere with your water activities.

Do I have more to say about these finds? You betcha, so read more
