Though I've been to the famed Tartine Bakery a few times, until last weekend, I'd never had its sandwiches. I've made a Tartine sandwich recipe at home, and now I've had the real deal, times three. These are no dainty French sandwiches but rather two-handed handfuls, cut into thirds, with each third the size of a normal half sandwich. Magnolia Cupcakes Soon to Be Just a Click Away

Cupcake fans rejoice!

Cupcake fans rejoice! The iconic New York City bakery Magnolia, whose cupcakes were made famous by Sex and the City, has announced plans of expansion. The cupcakery hopes to open new stores in New York, New Jersey, Washington, Boston, Philadelphia, and Chicago — and it's just signed a lease for a massive production facility in Harlem that will allow it to sell cupcakes online.

In Spring of 2011, the online Magnolia store will launch; it will sell not only the iconic cupcakes, but branded merchandise as well. No details as to how much the cupcakes will cost, but one can imagine that the pastel-frosted cakes won't be cheap. How much are you willing to spend on a cupcake? Do you order baked goods online?

An Inside Look at San Francisco's Newest Cake Shop

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the opening of a new Miette shop in San Francisco's Marina district.

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the opening of a new Miette shop in San Francisco's Marina district. Founded in 1991, Miette bakery is known for its charming cakes made with only the finest ingredients. With its pretty green walls and bright blue cake stands, the bakery is whimsical and beautiful. At the party, guests mingled with the owners while sipping on pink champagne and nibbling choquettes — a puffy, slightly sweet French dough ball. It was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Have you been to Miette? What is your favorite local bakeshop like?
