Halloween candy has been lining store shelves for at least a month now, and if it's not hard enough to resist buying those gigundo-sized bags of chocolate bars, there's now another October-31-inspired treat to tempt you: Last week Nabisco released Candy Corn Oreos in Target stores. As you may guess, this version is white vanilla wafers sandwiching yellow and orange cream. Following up on my popular Anatomy of a Cadbury Crème Egg post, I wanted to take a closer look at these colorful cookies.

When you take a quick glance at the nutrition facts and compare them to regular Oreos, things don't appear that different.

See the comparison after the break!

Think You Know Candy Corn?

Candy corn is one of those polarizing Halloween traditions; people either love 'em or just can't stand them.

Candy corn is one of those polarizing Halloween traditions; people either love 'em or just can't stand them. Their triangular shape, Autumnal colors, and sweet little stripes make up an image ingrained in Halloween celebrations all over the world. In honor of the iconic seasonal treat, I looked up a few facts and put it all together in a fun quiz. Think you know candy corn? Test your knowledge here.

The Basics: Chocolate Bark

When it comes to candy making, a great place to start is with bark.

When it comes to candy making, a great place to start is with bark. The technique for making bark is simple: you melt chocolate, spread on a baking sheet, throw on the toppings, refrigerate until cold, then break into pieces.

Use whatever kind of chocolate (milk, white, dark) and toppings (nuts, dried fruit, candy) you feel like. When selecting toppings, choose an assortment of flavors and textures: chewy, crunchy, sweet, salty — this will result in a delicious bark where each bite is filled with layers of goodies.

To celebrate Halloween, I made black and orange bark with a mixture of dark and milk chocolate, dried apricots, pretzels, and candy corn. It's a great after-dinner treat, or packaged in a pretty cellophane bag makes a fun edible gift. To learn the easy and adaptable method to making bark, keep reading.

Candy Corn: Love It or Hate It?

Even though it's not my favorite holiday, there are several reasons I look forward to Halloween, and one of them is candy corn.

Even though it's not my favorite holiday, there are several reasons I look forward to Halloween, and one of them is candy corn. I can find only less-than-positive words to describe the waxy, cloyingly sweet, unnaturally butterscotch-y neon-covered morsels, yet once I get started, I can't stop eating them. How do you feel about the seasonal confection?

Happy Hour: Candy Corn Cordials

Are you ready to get in the Halloween spirit?

Are you ready to get in the Halloween spirit? Then I have a spirit for you, candy corn-infused vodka! Don't be afraid, the candy corn slightly sweetens the vodka and gives it a vibrant orange color. Use the candy corn vodka to make a cocktail by combining with orange liquor, lemon juice, and an egg white. The egg white is necessary; it provides a rich frothiness to the drink. The candy corn cordial ends up tasting like a sophisticated orange soda. It's not cloying, but rather smooth, drinkable, and slightly potent. To get the recipe for this festive cocktail, read more

Candy-Off: Hershey's vs. Brach's Candy Corn

Happy National Candy Corn Day!

Happy National Candy Corn Day! This Halloween, grocery aisles have been stocked with two distinct types of my favorite seasonal candy: the traditional version made by Brach's, as well as a newer Hershey's rendition.

Last year, when I first tried the Hershey's candy corn, I thought it had a cloying aftertaste, and despite giving them a second chance, I still didn't care for them. Just to make sure I was giving the candy a fair assessment, I sought out some other Sugar gals for a second opinion. To see what they had to say, read more

Halloween Survival Guide: Hand Out Candy You Hate

Growing up, we handed out the same candy every year — Smarties and Starbursts.

Growing up, we handed out the same candy every year — Smarties and Starbursts.

While I have a huge affection for these two treats, my mother can't stand them. For her, these candies rated zero on the temptation scale, unlike her favorite Snickers bar. So follow this age-old advice that I learned from my mom: Hand out Halloween candy that you don't like. Don't bring the temptations into your home where they can taunt, tease, and trick you.

I know it seems sacrilege, but the candy that tempts me the least is the Halloween favorite candy corn. Can't stomach buying candy you hate? Then wait until the last minute to buy it so you aren't too tempted. Tell me the candy that you can keep in your house without eating in the comment section below.
