Taste Test: Cheesecake Factory's Oreo Dream Extreme

There's nothing better than Oreos baked into other desserts, so we were thrilled when we received an Oreo Dream Extreme Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory.

There's nothing better than Oreos baked into other desserts, so we were thrilled when we received an Oreo Dream Extreme Cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. The restaurant empire released this limited-edition flavor to its stores on July 30 to celebrate both National Cheesecake Day and the 100th birthday of the Oreo.

Get it while it lasts, because this is no ordinary cheesecake. It has archaeological layers of chocolate-y goodness waiting to be discovered. Starting with an unctuous layer of chocolate cake, it's followed by whole Oreo cookies embedded in vanilla cheesecake. A sizable spread of chocolate icing blankets the whole thing, and, finally, mini chocolate chips, studded around the sides, add a little crunch to the otherwise smooth slice. Our eyes feasted, but what about our palates? Take a look at our comments and ratings of this extreme cheesecake.

Cheesecake Factory Introduces Low-Calorie Menu

Roughly a year after being forced to display calorie counts on menus, the Cheesecake Factory has announced plans to roll out a separate menu that will feature 40 low-calorie dishes.

Roughly a year after being forced to display calorie counts on menus, the Cheesecake Factory has announced plans to roll out a separate menu that will feature 40 low-calorie dishes. Dubbed "SkinnyLicious," the new menu will have a variety of foods, from entrees to desserts.

Changes will begin on August 8, and all 150 locations will have the low-cal dishes on the menu by the end of September. Diners can choose from 15 590-calorie entrees and 12 appetizers that are under 490 calories. Vegetables replace potatoes on many steak and fish entrees, while dishes that involve cheese, like tacos, will have less cheese. Also, full-fat mayonnaise has been substituted with light mayo in items like chicken salad.

It's nice to see the nation's highest-grossing restaurant promote a healthier lifestyle. Will you enjoy SkinnyLicious? Have you changed the way you order at places like the Cheesecake Factory after seeing the calorie counts on the menu?

Want to keep that

Cheesecake Factory Skinny CocktailsWant to keep that resolution but order that cocktail and drink it, too? That's exactly what The Cheesecake Factory is hoping for with a line of "skinny" cocktails to be unveiled today. The new products will feature five of the chain's bestselling drinks, among them margaritas and mojitos, with total calorie counts around 150 — roughly half the nutritional value of their popular counterparts. The cocktail drink mixers, which are made in-house, will replace some sugar with sweeteners such as Splenda. Alcohol content, portions, and prices, however, will remain the same. What do you think of this new beverage category: is it a good idea or a bad idea?

Taste Test: Cheesecake Factory Cheesecakes

I must admit: I'm not the world's biggest fan of cheesecake, it's always seemed a bit too rich.

Do You Eat at The Cheesecake Factory?

Michael Ruhlman is a well-respected author in the food industry. Recently he shocked everyone when he wrote an article (prompted by a challenge from fellow journalist Kelly Alexander) that praised The Cheesecake Factory. A resident in malls across America, The Cheesecake Factory has an extensive 20-page laminated menu. While I haven't eaten there in years, it holds a special place in my heart: The Cheesecake Factory is where I had my very first mojito (shh...I wasn't 21). How do you feel about the establishment? Do you think the food is good?

Guess the Nutritional Stats in Cheesecake Factory Dishes

The Cheesecake Factory is notorious for its over-sized portions.

The Cheesecake Factory is notorious for its over-sized portions. With the exception of the Weight Management portion of the menu, the restaurant's nutritional information has been unavailable — until now.

The cloud of secrecy has been broken by a woman in Washington who took photographs of the menu after the state passed a restaurant disclosure law. Can you guess what they're serving up at The Cheesecake Factory?

Get Your Cheap Cheesecake!

To commemorate their 30th anniversary, the Cheesecake Factory will be lowering the price of cheesecake.

To commemorate their 30th anniversary, the Cheesecake Factory will be lowering the price of cheesecake. When the first Factory opened in Beverly Hills in 1978, a piece of cheesecake was only $1.50. Tomorrow, (which also happens to be National Cheesecake Day) the restaurant chain will offer cheesecake at its original ($1.50) price!

In addition to serving the cheap cheesecake, the Cheesecake Factory is introducing a special, limited-edition flavor, the 30th Anniversary Chocolate Cake Cheesecake. A portion of the sales of each anniversary slice will be donated to America's Second Harvest.

If you can't make it to a Cheesecake Factory tomorrow, no worries, the "sweet initiative" celebration — additional promotions have yet to be announced — will continue throughout the year.
