Chick-fil-A Introduces Healthy Kids' Meal, But Will Kids Eat It?

New year, new menu!

New year, new menu! If mama's New Year's resolution included cleaning up the lil one's menu, she has a new ally on her side. This week, Chick-fil-A, the Southern fast-food chicken chain, is introducing a new kids' menu meal — Grilled Chicken Nuggets. The all-breast meat, gluten-free Grilled Nuggets have only 80 calories and one gram of fat (for four) compared to 130 calories and six grams of fat in the traditionally fried nuggets. The quick-service chain is also introducing Buddy Fruits Pure Blended Fruit to Go applesauce and one percent milk to round out the meal, making it one of the healthiest kids' meals available.

Given the national childhood obesity epidemic, it's great to see a national chain making an effort to keep our kids healthy. The biggest problem now will be getting families to order the healthier meal when Chick-fil-A's famous fried versions are still readily available.

Chick-fil-A and Heinz Ketchup Team Up Today to Offer Free Fries

Last year, Heinz unveiled a newly redesigned packet that allowed condiment lovers to choose between squeezing or dipping when it came to enjoying ketchup.

Last year, Heinz unveiled a newly redesigned packet that allowed condiment lovers to choose between squeezing or dipping when it came to enjoying ketchup. Now, Heinz's dual-function ketchup packet has partnered with Chick-fil-A to celebrate with Free FryDay.

From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. local time today, ask for Heinz's new Dip & Squeeze packet, and you'll receive a free medium order of Chick-fil-A waffle fries (one per customer).

The two brands are encouraging fans to follow both Heinz Ketchup and Chick-fil-A on Facebook for more prizes. I rarely turn down anything that's free, but this does seem like a timely promotion, especially after all the heat Chick-fil-A's been getting for taking a conservative stance on certain social issues. Will you partake in it?

Is It OK For Restaurants to Take a Stance on Social Issues?

It's only the beginning of January, and one restaurant chain's already embroiled in the biggest poultry fast food controversy since Oprah offered millions free KFC.

It's only the beginning of January, and one restaurant chain's already embroiled in the biggest poultry fast food controversy since Oprah offered millions free KFC. In Pennsylvania, Chick-fil-A has been under fire for supporting an anti-gay group.

The controversy surrounds the chicken chain's cosponsoring of an event with the Pennsylvania Family Institute, a leading opponent of same-sex marriage that's said to have affiliations with conversion therapy proponents. In response, tens of thousands of Americans have petitioned against the sponsorship.Chick-fil-AThe conservative chain, which is known for keeping its doors shut on Sundays, has removed its name from any event materials and has issued a short statement as well on its Facebook page saying that it's determined "one of our independent restaurant operators in Pennsylvania was asked to provide sandwiches to two Art of Marriage video seminars . . . we do our best to serve local communities."

Where do you stand on the issue? Is it right for restaurants and food establishments to take an active stance on touchy social issues?

Would You Wear a Cow Suit to Score Free Food?

To celebrate cow appreciation day, the fast food chain Chick-fil-A is giving away free combo meals tomorrow.

To celebrate cow appreciation day, the fast food chain Chick-fil-A is giving away free combo meals tomorrow. To score a free meal, you have to go into the restaurant dressed like a cow from head to, er, hoof. If you dress as only a partial bovine beauty then you'll score a free entree instead.

I think the idea is pretty funny, and I've done some crazy things in the name of food before, so perhaps if I actually had a Chick-fil-A nearby, I would score a free meal. What about you? Would you dress like a cow to get a free meal?

Dress Up Like a Cow, Get a Free Chicken Combo Meal

I don't live near a Chick-fil-A, but from what I hear it's a fantastic fast food mecca.

I don't live near a Chick-fil-A, but from what I hear it's a fantastic fast food mecca. If you happen to live near one and don't mind making a fool of yourself, you should head down tomorrow (July 13th) to celebrate Cow Appreciation Day. If you come dressed as a cow, you'll even get a free combo meal. Just make sure that it's "fully dressed" and not "partially dressed" - after all, partially dressed will only get you an entree.

If you're interested and look forward to dressing as a cow, be sure to find a location near you.
