Button Coasters: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

The latest in home tech — geeky coasters — has resulted in a new cheeky set, this time Button Coasters ($10).

The set of four include the buttons for Ctrl, Alt, Del, and Esc — funny that you have all the commands to get out of your current situation; I don't know if that would make your guests feel welcome for cocktails. I might put them on my coffee table and just hope no one desires to escape!

Mario Mushroom Coasters: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

Geeky coasters are hot — maybe because after all that brain activity, we all just need to wind down with a cool drink?

Geeky coasters are hot — maybe because after all that brain activity, we all just need to wind down with a cool drink? Whatever the reason, I'll just appreciate, like I am with this set of 1-Up Mario Mushroom Coasters ($20).

The hand-stitched coasters recall your love for Mario and Luigi without having to dust off that old console. But what do you say — does nostalgia win, or have you outgrown these old game motifs?

YumSugar Gift Guide: The Hipster Foodie

A friend of mine, who fits the classification of hipster to a T, also happens to love all things gourmet.

A friend of mine, who fits the classification of hipster to a T, also happens to love all things gourmet. Initially, I was at a loss for what to get her, but I quickly discovered that there's an array of niche gift items that converge at the juncture of food, music, and cutting-edge cool. Case in point: I have to get her this book about underground dining, and because she loves to push the envelope, I know she'll flip for this shopping bag.

Etsy Find: Magnetic Blackboard Coasters

Talk about multitasking. When you're not resting your Long Island on one of these magnetic blackboard coasters ($15 for a set of four), you can keep them on your fridge, and even jot your grocery notes down on them.

Talk about multitasking. When you're not resting your Long Island on one of these magnetic blackboard coasters ($15 for a set of four), you can keep them on your fridge, and even jot your grocery notes down on them. This is a great solution for keeping your coffee table tidy, and I think the black circles add a fun design element to your fridge as well. The coasters are covered with UV-coated vinyl that can be drawn on with regular chalk and then wiped clean with a damp cloth.

I saw these Chocolate Coasters ($12.95) and knew they'd be perfect for chocolate month.

I saw these Chocolate Coasters ($12.95) and knew they'd be perfect for chocolate month. They come in packs of four and look exactly like hunks of brown or white chocolate. I think they might make a good gift for a super-chocoholic, but I'm not sure I'd want to use them on my coffee table. What do you think? Do you want them in your house?

Brighten Your Party With Colored Coasters

I was recently inspired while dining with my parents at Lulu.

I was recently inspired while dining with my parents at Lulu. When the waiter brought us our drinks, he placed them on colored cardstock coasters. The coasters were simple blue circles and I suddenly envisioned them as a part of the look for my next party! They are a simple way to add a punch of color and a touch of fabulousness while being useful at the same time. The possibilities are endless, you could make coasters with the name, date, and occasion of an event or print out your team's mascot for a Super Bowl party. What do you guys think? Have I gone coaster crazy or is this a fun idea?
