The Search For the Best Undiscovered Burger Chef

Rachael Ray is known for her burgers, so it comes as no surprise that the television personality, in partnership with her magazine Every Day With Rachael Ray, is looking for the best undiscovered burger chef.

Rachael Ray is known for her burgers, so it comes as no surprise that the television personality, in partnership with her magazine Every Day With Rachael Ray, is looking for the best undiscovered burger chef. Over the past few weeks, magazine readers have submitted nominations for their favorite burgers offered by independent restaurants across the country.

The staff of Every Day has selected three finalists — Paul Malvone, Tommy Up, and Mauricio Oliveros — to prepare their burgers on the Rachael Ray show later this week. Only one will be chosen to bring his burger to Rachael Ray's Burger Bash at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival in February.

Of the competition, Editor in Chief Liz Vaccariello said, "The magazine wanted to show that lesser known cooks can hold their own at the biggest and most respected burger competition in the country." I think the opportunity is a fun one, and I look forward to tasting the winner's creation at the fifth annual Burger Bash on Feb. 24. Who makes your favorite burger?

Taste Test: Fully Loaded Baked Potato Kettle Chips

PartySugar and I love our Kettle Chips, from Jalapeño to Death Valley Chipotle.

PartySugar and I love our Kettle Chips, from Jalapeño to Death Valley Chipotle. So when the company put us up to the Create-a-Chip Challenge, we took it head on, creating flavors like curry ketchup and fully loaded baked potato and uploading them onto the company's online recipe gallery. Perhaps Kettle took some of our ideas to heart, because its newest flavor and the winner of the challenge is — you saw this one coming — Fully Loaded Baked Potato. See what we thought of it when you read more.

Flavor Your Own Chips With Kettle's Create-a-Chip Kit

My whole life, I've been a sucker for trying the every possible packaged food novelty, from bacon-flavored mayonnaise to ice cream cupcakes.

My whole life, I've been a sucker for trying the every possible packaged food novelty, from bacon-flavored mayonnaise to ice cream cupcakes. However, my favorite kind of food promotion is — hands down — the interactive kind. For example, some time ago, Kettle sent Party and I an assortment of new chips, and asked us to vote on the brand's next flavor. This year, the chipmakers took it to the next level with an even more hands-on promotion. For their Create-a-Chip Challenge, Kettle sent a kit with seven seasoning packets, four bags of unseasoned chips, three Kettle flavors for inspiration, and a card with recipe suggestions. To see what original flavors we came up with, read more

Jelly Belly's Newest Flavor: Acai Berry

America's favorite jelly bean company, Jelly Belly, announced its newest flavor this morning.

America's favorite jelly bean company, Jelly Belly, announced its newest flavor this morning. Fans voted the acai berry, a trendy energy fruit, as the latest addition to the 50 official, ever-changing flavors. The public was invited to submit ideas for new flavors in the Dream Bean Contest and five finalists — honey, sublime chili lime, Thai iced tea, mojito, and acai — were chosen. According to Rob Swaigen, marking director for the company, the decision was an easy one:

We received thousands of submissions for acai berry flavor — it's
clearly on many people's radar. The voting for the finalist flavors was
overwhelming in favor of acai. Honey came in a strong second place.

I'm curious to try the new jelly bean and wonder how close it will taste to the actual berry. Have you tried acai? Are you interested in tasting the new jelly bean?
