>> Our new favorite bracelets don't just look chic — they also give something back. Pura Vida was founded by two friends who, while on a postgraduation surf trip in Costa Rica, became enamored with the local artistans' brightly colored bracelets and decided to sell them back home in San Diego. Now, the company is just over a year old and a runaway success; the bracelets (priced $5 to $12 each) sell at over 700 stores across the US — including Nordstrom and American Eagle Outfitters — as well as on the Pura Vida website, and the company currently employs 25 artisans in Costa Rica full-time to create 15,000 bracelets a week. "Now the bracelets are everywhere and we see strangers wearing them — at bars, restaurants. The connection we feel when that happens is so sweet," Pura Vida cofounder Griffin Thall says. In addition to providing work for artisans in Costa Rica, Pura Vida also donates 1 percent of its profits to The Surfrider Foundation. Here, we've rounded up some of our favorite pieces from the collection — click through to shop them all.

Lovely Little Vignettes: Meaningful Art

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member Birdhouse Family from the Lovely Little Vignettes group:

When my husband surprised me with this large framed photograph I was delighted but also a bit taken aback. I spend quite a bit of time thinking about the décor in our house and didn't know where such a large piece would work. The photo is very special to us as it portrays a part of Costa Rica where we work for part of each year. It was also taken by a fabulous photographer we've recently gotten to know. To my husband's credit, the colors fit right into our color scheme, and the best location soon became obvious — the middle of our living room! You can read more about it here.

Be sure to share photos of your own home décor arrangements in the Lovely Little Vignettes group!

Would You Eat These Chile Peppers?

When I was dining at El Pescador in Costa Rica, the waiter placed a jar on the table and said, "chilero." It was a container of small red chile peppers. I asked him how hot they were, and he simply replied, "yes hot." Always an adventurous eater, I decided to taste one to determine their spiciness. I tried to get my sister and dad to eat one with me, but both refused. How about you?

Eat and Drink Your Way Through Costa Rica

Wishing you were on a tropical vacation?
The Food and Drink of Costa Rica

Wishing you were on a tropical vacation? Might I recommend Costa Rica? I was fortunate enough to spend the Winter holidays there in Tamarindo. While I enjoyed plenty of beach time, I also made it a priority to eat and drink at as many restaurants and bars as possible. Here are some highlights from my trip!

Costa Rican Fruit Cocktail

Recently I visited Costa Rica.
The Fruit of Costa Rica

Recently I visited Costa Rica. One of my first stops was a local farmers market set up in a small plaza in the town of Quepos. It was a bustling place with a variety of stands: fruit, flowers, vegetables and makeshift restaurants serving local fare. Amongst many known fruits and vegetables were plenty foreign and exotic variations — all a must try. My two new favorites were the mammones and guaba. Wanna Beat Your Rival? Serve Up a Bigger Vat!

Yesterday, over 80 chefs gathered together to make a giant vat of Gallo Pinto.

Yesterday, over 80 chefs gathered together to make a giant vat of Gallo Pinto. The dish, which is considered to be the national dish of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, is a mix of beans and rice fried together with spices. The reason for the giant vat? Try the first Gallo Pinto National Festival in San José, Costa Rica. To celebrate the event, they created enough gallo pinto — over 4,400 pounds of black beans and 4,000 pounds of rice — to feed 30,000 people. The main reason for the quantity was to defeat Nicaragua's record of serving up 20,000 people the year before!
