Desire/Acquire: Gold Flatware

When it comes to your table setting — flatware, to be exact — the Midas touch is now trending.

When it comes to your table setting — flatware, to be exact — the Midas touch is now trending. Yes, your basic silver place setting is a classic, but gold offers a glitzy touch, regardless of the occasion. The set that first caught our eye, reinforcing our obsession, was this Sambonet five-piece place setting. It's glamorous yet sleek, elegant but durable. But there's a catch: one setting runs $140 — quite pricey for trendy flatware! Although it's made in Italy, the price tag may require a bit of thought or a wedding registry.

If you're unable to give up on your table's perfect gold accent, we found this Oro Viejo Flatware. It's not as shiny as the setting we first spotted, but it's just as stylish and almost the exact shape. Since it costs about $28 per setting, you can actually host a dinner party instead of a party of one! How's that for a gold standard?

Roundup: Flatware Off the Table

Ever since a friend of mine stenciled an adorable fork, knife, and spoon pattern on her kitchen floor, I've been fixated on flatware motifs.

Ever since a friend of mine stenciled an adorable fork, knife, and spoon pattern on her kitchen floor, I've been fixated on flatware motifs. I already own a set of adorable flatware-adorned dish towels, so I should probably not go overboard — but this clever refrigerator decal is hard to resist!

If you like the look, you're in luck, because I've rounded up a hearty serving of utensil motifs for you to stick a fork in, like this High Style Wall Decals Spoon, Fork, Knife design ($25). Dig into the rest of my picks in the widget below.

Lenox has teamed up with Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig of Marchesa to launch a new couture tabletop collection. Marchesa by Lenox will include dinnerware, stemware, flatware, and giftware. The line will feature eight custom dinnerware patterns inspired by Marchesa's eveningwear and bridal gown designs, from lace detailing to rose embellishments.

"We wanted to develop this collection the same way we do each of our gowns, with one-of-a-kind designs and detailed craftsmanship — creating a uniquely elegant dinnerware style not yet found in the market," says Chapman. The patterns will include Floral Illustrations, Spring Lark, Palatial Garden, French Lace, Painted Camellia, Porcelain Lace, Paisley Bloom, and Marchesa Rose. Better yet, all pieces will be dishwasher and microwave safe! The collection will debut in stores and online this Fall. Sounds fabulous! It's definitely a must for your wedding registry!

How-To: Keep Your Flatware Drawer Tidy

Over the holidays, some of my friends housesat for us for a few days.
Williams-Sonoma at ShopStyle

Over the holidays, some of my friends housesat for us for a few days. When I have someone stay at my house, I try to make it as tidy and welcoming as possible, and one of my go-to tasks is tidying and cleaning the flatware drawer. It's rather disconcerting, in my opinion, to open a drawer, looking for a spoon for your ice cream, and find yourself staring at a messy and crumb-filled flatware drawer.

Registry Roundup: The Table Is Flat

You've picked out your favorite dishware, you've found the perfect glasses, and you've even — thanks to CasaSugar — discovered the ultimate table linens.

You've picked out your favorite dishware, you've found the perfect glasses, and you've even — thanks to CasaSugar — discovered the ultimate table linens. Now all that's left in creating the dining portion of your registry is flatware. While it may not be the most glamorous part of the table, choosing the correct flatware is an import decision. Do you go ornate and over the top? Do you go everyday or sterling silver? The decision is up to you, keep in mind your needs and desires. If you're planning on getting a set of fine china in addition to everyday dishes, then you should probably do the same for flatware.

Whatever you decide, just make sure you don't forget the serving spoons, forks and knives!

Charm Flatware: Love It or Hate It?

I hate to say it but I find flatware incredibly interesting.

I hate to say it but I find flatware incredibly interesting. Often overlooked but essential to any formal table setting, the knives, forks, and spoons can make or break a table. At first glance, I hated this Charm flatware because I thought it was a set of different colors. When I realized the sets come in only one color, I totally saw them in a new light. The red would look gorgeous on a Valentine's Day table! What do you think? Is this flatware simply fab or horribly drab?

Snap To It! Snap-a-Party from Fred

All week I've been talking about how to register for fancy dinnerware and flatware, but what if you just want something cheap and fun?

All week I've been talking about how to register for fancy dinnerware and flatware, but what if you just want something cheap and fun? Well hey I've got just the thing for you. Check out the Snap-a-Party from Fred. Okay, so it's not exactly the sort of fine china that will last you years and years, and you probably can't register for it anywhere, but it's definitely fun. The Snap-A-Party makes me think of those little bits and pieces from toys or model planes. It comes complete with a knife, fork, spoon, plate, chopsticks, toothpick and (this one sort of baffles me) a napkin ring. They're packed 4 to a pack (it is after all snap-a-PARTY, not snap-a-solo-outing) and come in 4 colors.

Wedding Registry 101: Flatware

So you've picked out your dinnerware and drinkware, looks like the flatware is next!

So you've picked out your dinnerware and drinkware, looks like the flatware is next!

Just like dinnerware and glassware, you will (traditionally) want to register for both fancy and everyday versions. Your fancy flatware is reserved for holidays and special occasions, while your everyday flatware is the stuff that is going to get banged around and ground up in the garbage disposal (come on, who hasn't done that at least once). You may decide that fancy flatware is not your thing, and that you would rather your guests spend the money on other accessories (soup spoons, knives, serving sets) instead. To check out a few tips on what to look for in flatware, as well as get a list of useful things to add to the flatware portion of your registry, read more
