Scream For It! Raspberry-Swirl Greek Frozen Yogurt

Greek yogurt is wildly popular, so why not use it for the perfect refreshing Summer treat: Greek frozen yogurt with raspberry swirl.

Greek yogurt is wildly popular, so why not use it for the perfect refreshing Summer treat: Greek frozen yogurt with raspberry swirl. This thick yogurt is easy to employ as an ice cream base — especially since you avoid the temperamental custard process. If you can't find Greek yogurt, you can actually make your own by simply straining regular yogurt.

This tangy and sweet frozen yogurt is a great base for just about any seasonal fruit or berry, so feel free to experiment with other combinations. There are two ways to achieve the perfect swirl; one is to layer the frozen yogurt and fruit puree several times, and when you scoop it out, it will swirl on its own. The second technique is to very gently mix the frozen yogurt and fruit puree in a large bowl, but the key here is to undermix it, to ensure a swirl in the end. Stay cool these last days of Summer with homemade froyo! Read more for the recipe.

Guess the Calories in These Popular Yogurt Toppings?

One of my favorite warm-weather pastimes is visiting my local frozen yogurt shop.

frozen yogurtOne of my favorite warm-weather pastimes is visiting my local frozen yogurt shop. Frozen yogurt is such a tasty treat — especially on a hot day — but what I love even more is being able to load up my yogurt with delicious toppings. Sometimes when I'm feeling really adventurous, I steer clear of the traditional fruit toppings and I go for something more exotic — mochi, anyone?! Even though they taste sweet, a lot of the options are not so friendly when it comes to calories. Here's a quiz to see how much you know about the calories in yogurt toppings!

Cold Stone Creamery Jumps on the Frozen Yogurt Bandwagon

Like cupcakes, the frozen yogurt wave has shown no sign of melting, despite the fact that yogurt bars are jocking one another's ideas left and right, from custom blends to flavors like pumpkin fro-yo.

Cold Stone Creamery Frozen YogurtLike cupcakes, the frozen yogurt wave has shown no sign of melting, despite the fact that yogurt bars are jocking one another's ideas left and right, from custom blends to flavors like pumpkin fro-yo.

Nationwide chain Jamba Juice isn't the only company trying to get into the frozen yogurt game. Joining them is Cold Stone Creamery, which is testing out its own version of the self-serve frozen yogurt bar. This isn't the chain's first foray into fro-yo — it jumped on the tart bandwagon back in 2008 — but now the hand-mixed ice cream chain's attempting to monopolize the market with soft-serve versions of its most popular flavors.

The option will be hitting stores on the East Coast, Arizona, and California over the next several weeks. Do you think it'll prove successful, or is Cold Stone a little late to enter the game? I'd love to hear your thoughts below.

Jamba Juice Tests Out Frozen Yogurt Line

Between flatbreads and wraps, hot blended drinks, and oatmeal, what trend hasn't smoothie chain Jamba Juice tried to ride?

Between flatbreads and wraps, hot blended drinks, and oatmeal, what trend hasn't smoothie chain Jamba Juice tried to ride? Frozen yogurt — at least, until now.

Yesterday, it began piloting a new line, Whirl'ns. The fro-yo — which includes eight custom-blendable flavors with various toppings such as fresh fruit — is currently being offered in 22 Northern California stores but may go nationwide if successful.

Could following closely in the footsteps of Yogen Früz, Red Mango, and Pinkberry be the answer for a company that's struggled to branch out beyond smoothies? Your thoughts are welcomed below.

Let's Dish: What Toppings Do You Get on Frozen Yogurt?

Several times a week, BellaSugar and I duck out of the office and across the street to Yoppi, our favorite of the three frozen yogurt spots located within a half-block radius of the Sugar office.

Several times a week, BellaSugar and I duck out of the office and across the street to Yoppi, our favorite of the three frozen yogurt spots located within a half-block radius of the Sugar office. Part of Yoppi's appeal is that it's self-serve, and one can choose from an endless array of toppings, from cheesecake bites to carob morsels to Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

"I could never imagine putting that on top of my fro-yo," Bella said once, pointing to a rainbow of jelly beans and gummi bear toppings. I agree; my favorite toppings are less saccharine, like berries and granola. Since we all have differing tastes (apparently someone likes jelly beans with frozen yogurt!), tell me: what are your preferred toppers on frozen yogurt?
