Hot Hot Heat: The Best of July 2013's Magazine Covers So Far

Summer might not have officially started yet, but that hasn't stopped our favorite fashion magazines from bringing a little heat to their July covers.

Summer might not have officially started yet, but that hasn't stopped our favorite fashion magazines from bringing a little heat to their July covers. Case in point: Vogue Netherlands's cover shows model Kinee Diouf wearing a floaty caftan, Dazed & Confused's cover features Kati Nescher in a coat that makes her look like she's on fire, and Cosmopolitan's cover with Kelly Osbourne invites readers to "Turn Up the Heat!"

There are some other lovely covers from next month that will be hitting newsstands any day now. From Salma Hayek on the cover of InStyle to Lauren Conrad on the cover of Marie Claire, a look at some of our favorites from July, here in the gallery.

Eva Chen to Replace Brandon Holley as Editor in Chief of Lucky

It's official: Eva Chen has been named the editor in chief of Lucky magazine, replacing Brandon Holley.

It's official: Eva Chen has been named the editor in chief of Lucky magazine, replacing Brandon Holley. Chen, the former beauty and health director of Teen Vogue, had been consulting at Lucky with Condé Nast's artistic director, Anna Wintour.

The staff change was announced in an internal memo sent to Condé Nast employees Tuesday. A source told Fashionista that the entire Lucky staff was summoned to an "emergency meeting" earlier in the day.

In a statement, Wintour praised Chen's international presence and called her "the quintessential Lucky girl. Eva is a woman of tremendous talent and experience. I have worked with her over the last few years, both during her time at Teen Vogue, and as she has been consulting with Lucky. Her lengthy experience in our industry gives her a solid foundation in both digital and e-commerce."

Chen's impact on the magazine will start to appear in its September issue, the most important month for print fashion magazines. Chen is also one of the few editors in chief at Condé Nast's domestic magazines who isn't white. Her colleague Keija Minor became the first black editor in chief at the company when she was appointed to lead Brides in September.

There's no word yet on what Holley's next move will be. Before coming to Lucky in 2010, Holley had been editor in chief of Yahoo! Shine.

Coco Rocha Now Moonlighting as a Tech Columnist

The endlessly multitalented Coco Rocha has added another line to her résumé with a stint as a columnist for a magazine.

The endlessly multitalented Coco Rocha has added another line to her résumé with a stint as a columnist for a magazine. But it's not a fashion glossy she's writing for. Instead, Rocha has joined the team at PC Magazine.

"It might seem a little strange to have a high fashion model write for a technology magazine, but I'm actually the kind of girl who'd rather buy a new tablet over a new pair of heels any day of the week," Rocha wrote in a blog post explaining her new job. "Hopefully in my column for PCMag you'll see the ways I think the worlds of fashion and technology can and are coming together."

That intersection makes sense for Rocha, who's known for her social media prowess — she was the first model to break a million followers on Google+, and she's been a featured speaker at technology conferences like the Bespoke Luxury Summit in Sydney, Australia.

Rocha's first monthly column, published earlier this month, is about 3D printing and how it might change the fashion industry.

"What I'd like to see in 3D printing is an increased number of wearable materials," Rocha writes. "I know that we are right on the cusp of a serious revolution in the way we buy, sell, and manufacture clothing, and I think if the right industry leaders jump on these opportunities, this could be a golden time in fashion."

See Gisele Bündchen's First Postbaby Cover — and the Best June 2013 Covers So Far

Gisele Bündchen posed for the June 2013 cover of Vogue Brasil just two months after giving birth to her daughter, Vivian Lake Brady.

Gisele Bündchen posed for the June 2013 cover of Vogue Brasil just two months after giving birth to her daughter, Vivian Lake Brady. Mario Testino, who shot the cover, was so inspired by Bündchen's shape that he asked the magazine's editor Daniela Falcão if he could shoot eight more bodycentric editorials for the issue.

But there are even more inspiring June covers. Kate Upton landed her first cover of Vogue, and Kerry Washington's Elle cover is the first time the actress has fronted a major American fashion magazine.

There are some other stunners, including all eight covers for the independent fashion magazine Ponystep, Gwyneth Paltrow for Glamour UK, Karlie Kloss for Vogue Japan, and Nicolas Ghesquière and Charlotte Gainsbourg for 032c, in which the designer discusses life after Balenciaga.

A look at those covers and more, here in the gallery.

January Jones on Fighting Diane Kruger For Red Carpet Dresses

Actress January Jones may be known for taking risks on the red carpet, but the Mad Men star says she doesn't use a stylist.

Actress January Jones may be known for taking risks on the red carpet, but the Mad Men star says she doesn't use a stylist. Instead, she gets inspiration from her good friend, fashion darling and actress Diane Kruger. But that's not all she revealed in a recent interview with The Edit, Net-A-Porter's online magazine. A look at what else she has to say, below.

On dressing with Diane Kruger: "She always looks fantastic, so I watch what she wears. We like to go to shows or look online and then fight each other for the best pieces."

On her brief stint in modeling: "The greatest thing I took from it was self-appreciation: I was good at dealing with disappointment. You go on 10 go-sees a day, so when I got to LA and started auditioning, I was used to rejection."

On staying private: "There are parts of your life — no matter what your job — that should remain private. When my son asks those questions, I want him to hear it from me. I don't want him to be able to Google it."

The Very Best of May 2013's Fashion Magazine Covers (Updated!)

If April showers bring May flowers as pretty as these magazine covers, let the rain fall.

If April showers bring May flowers as pretty as these magazine covers, let the rain fall. So far, the next crop of glossy fashion magazine fronts don't disappoint: Carey Mulligan channels Daisy Buchanan on the May cover of Vogue, and Beyoncé makes a glittery first appearance on the cover of Vogue UK. The singer, currently on her Mrs. Carter Show tour, also looks stunning on the cover of Vogue India.

Of course the singer isn't the only living legend on one of next month's glossy covers. Lauren Hutton takes a graceful fall for Harper's Bazaar España, and John Malkovich makes an appearance for Arena Homme +. But supermodels more than held their own. A look at Naomi Campbell for Vogue Brazil, Georgia May Jagger for Dazed and Confused Korea, Karen Elson for Harper's Bazaar UK, and the rest of the best covers from May, here in the gallery.

Cover Stories: The Best and Worst-Selling Magazines of 2012

Movie stars and magazine covers go hand in hand, but according to new numbers from the Alliance For Audited Media, some of the best newsstand sale numbers for 2012 belong to musicians and supermodels.

Movie stars and magazine covers go hand in hand, but according to new numbers from the Alliance For Audited Media, some of the best newsstand sale numbers for 2012 belong to musicians and supermodels.

For example, Lady Gaga's September cover of Vogue was the title's best-selling issue of 2012. Gwen Stefani was Harper's Bazaar's best-seller in September, and Brooke Shield's cover of Architectural Digest was also a hit on the newsstand.

At the low end, Kim Kardashian and her sisters Kourtney and Khloé failed to deliver high sales for Glamour, and Vogue's Olympic-themed June cover — starring athletes Hope Solo, Ryan Lochte, and Serena Williams — was the title's worst-selling issue of the year.

A look at whose covers sold well — and whose didn't — here in the gallery.

Time Inc. Reportedly in Talks to Sell Magazine Business

Some of the most recognizable brands in the print business might soon have new owners if Time Warner moves ahead with discussions to sell off parts of its magazine company — the nation's largest — Time Inc.

Some of the most recognizable brands in the print business might soon have new owners if Time Warner moves ahead with discussions to sell off parts of its magazine company — the nation's largest — Time Inc.

According to Fortune — which is itself a Time Inc. title — executives from the company on Wednesday discussed a potential deal with representatives of the Meredith Corporation, the Iowa publisher that owns Ladies' Home Journal, Parents, and More, among other titles. While the talks are still in their infancy, a tentative sales plan would see Time Warner holding onto its three oldest titles (Time, Sports Illustrated, and Fortune), while letting go of InStyle, People, Real Simple, and the rest of its stable of glossies.

A spokesperson for Meredith told WWD, "It is our policy not to comment on marketplace rumors or speculation." How much the transaction is worth and whether it will actually go through remain to be seen.

Rumors of Time Warner selling off some of its magazines have surfaced before, but these seem especially credible in light of Time Inc.'s recent performance. Last month, in response to a decline in sales, subscription revenue, and advertising revenue in 2012, Time Inc. announced that it had plans to lay off six percent of its work force both domestically and internationally. As Time Warner continues to get smaller — the company sold off both Time Warner Cable and AOL in 2009 — selling off under-performing units might be seen as an attempt to insulate itself from trouble in the print industry.

The New Girl: Glamour Names Ying Chu Beauty Director

The great editor shakeup of 2012 is continuing right on into the New Year with a recent round of staff changes at Glamour.

The great editor shakeup of 2012 is continuing right on into the New Year with a recent round of staff changes at Glamour. The magazine has replaced its longtime beauty director Felicia Milewicz, who left in November, with Marie Claire's former beauty and health director Ying Chu.

Chu will serve as the magazine's executive beauty director, overseeing beauty content both in print and online. She'll work closely with editor in chief Cindi Leive. Chu will be replaced by Erin Flaherty, Marie Claire's current executive beauty editor.

"There is not a more exciting place to be, or a more inspirational editor to work with," said Chu, who starts her new job at the end of the month. "And I can't wait to engage with the Glamour audience!"

The new hire coincides with a round of promotions: Glamour's executive fashion director Anne Christensen is now creative director, fashion; and design director Geraldine Hessler's new title is creative director, design. Suzanne Donaldson, previously the magazine's photo director, is now its executive photo director.

The Glamour team is just one of many glossy magazine staffs that have been rocked by editors coming and going in the last several months. Last October, Glamour's senior beauty editor Elaine Welteroth left the magazine to replace Teen Vogue's outgoing beauty and health director Eva Chen.
