Hash the Best Way to Start Breakfast

Since hash is one of our favorite breakfasts, we had to share this photo that Lauren took with you.

Since hash is one of our favorite breakfasts, we had to share this photo that Lauren took with you. She uploaded it to our community!

Hash has a bad name considering the stuff in a can is incredibly gross, but fresh homemade hash is my favorite. A traditional hash of corned beef, potatoes, bell pepper, and onions topped with two poached eggs! Delicious. In a little ramekin is a jalapeño strawberry jam; great idea, so I just might need to make my own once strawberries are back in season.

Starbucks Card Mobile App

It was only a matter of time: this morning, Starbucks launched a new mobile app that enables customers to pay for any food or beverage using the technology of a smartphone.

The Starbucks Card Mobile App is designed for iPhones, the iPod Touch, and the BlackBerry and should work at 7,500 locations in the US, including the stores inside Target. The app allows users to view and reload their Starbucks card balance, find participating locations, and check on card rewards. This morning, I tested it out. To see my thoughts, keep reading.

Cool Idea: A DIY Sputnik Mobile

With its satellite shape, the Sputnik-style chandelier become a design icon in the 1950s and is still popular today.

With its satellite shape, the Sputnik-style chandelier become a design icon in the 1950s and is still popular today. Unfortunately, an orbital original will cost you an arm, a leg, and an antennae. Like Katherine Heigl (who owns one), I'm a fan of the space-age fixture, but unlike the starlet, I don't have the dough to shell out for one. Imagine my excitement when I came across a DIY version. Blogger Old Brand New cleverly crafted his own version of the iconic lamp by clipping leftover Christmas baubles to a satellite-shaped photo clip mobile ($13). While the time to hang Christmas ornaments has passed, I can see plenty of ways to DIY a more evergreen Sputnik-inspired mobile. For instance, glass balls like CB2's Whirly Hanging Candleholders ($4) might do the trick, if securely affixed, or even simple silver or mercury glass ornaments might offer a less "seasonal" style.
